Sometimes in modified cars with turbos, they "pop" at high rpms when flames shoot out of the tailpipes, so perhaps pushing the car that much made your car do that.
"Brutal" Supras yes, but it's not impossible for a lot of cars to do it, especially turbocharged ones. If it happens like every time, be worried. But seriously, cars make noises. If I'd be getting worried everytime it made some weird sound I'd be still worried when i'm 70.
