Technology converting cd to wav

i need a program that converts tracks on a cd to wav files. (and alternatively, mp3 files, i only need wavs though) i have eac but for some reason it produces empty waves. i get a full-size wav file that's like a 150 megs or whatever, but there is no audio data in it, so it's just a long blank wav file. anyone got a neat, free little program i could use?
