Whatup mofos, i'm takin US History this year and since i'm Canadian, this is really the first time i've taken it. Anyways, i'm writin my term paper on Malcolm X and was wondering how prevalent he was in your US History textbooks used in highschool especially in comparison to MLK. The one we're usin doesn't seem to talk about Mr. X all that much (2 pages max) and i was wondering if 2Pac's two-liner in "Words of Wisdom" holds true for the texts you guys have used in the past. Would appreciate your help. Thanks.

Malcolm X gets a paragraph or two maybe in our books, or at least the ones I've had. If you want to know details about him or his life, you need to do extra research. I did a project on him AP US History, and I didn't use my textbook at all.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah i'm not looking for people to do any research on him for me. I just need to know whether he was discussed somewhat thoroughly in your past textbooks (or current if you're still in high school.)

you wont find too much mention of him in text books. with good reason though.

i have a bookmark, or had one, on one of these computers that had some of his speeches on a site that you could listen too, i will try and find it for you

I had AP US History myself and had to use 2 textbooks both brand new. Can't really remember seeing him thoroughly.

Word thanks to all your replies. PuffnScruff if you can't find it it's ok. Not lookin for u guys to do any work for me. Just needed to find out how it was for you guys in the past. Thanks peeps.

the way i sort of look at why he isnt tought about so much in public schools as compared to a person like MLK, is because he was pretty racist for a long time. he didnt really stop being racist until he made his trip to mecca.

how do you teach about this man too a bunch of young minds who might get the wrong idea about him or take away the negative things he preeched about. plus you would have to bring in the NOI and that might go against church and state to some point, plus NOI is completely racist.

^ exactly. it's not that he wasn't important, but publishers for HS textbooks are uncomfortable with being controversial, or anything remotely close to it.
