Note that songwriting goes beyond lyrics.

I'm voting for the New Pornographers's "The Bleeding Heart Show".

For those who haven't heard.

Spoon had some great songs on their last one, too, though...

"The Word" by Prince from his new album 3121.

Absolutely beautiful musical dynamics, purely relaxing verse melodies complimented by a hook that you'll find humming along to, then uplifted - "Get Up, Come On, Let's Do Something". Mix this with spiritually cleansing lyrics and a funky as hell breakdown. Fuck yeah.

Evermore - It's Too Late

This song hits so close to home i can't even explain. If there was ever a song that put my feelings of 2004 into lyrics it's this song. It's absolutely amazing. For those who haven't heard it. Evermore is an australian band that i think made it international with the It's too Late (Remix).
