Lyrically, The Wall is a stronger album owing to vast improvement of Roger Waters as a song writer in the six years that followed the release of Dark Side. However, I consider the latter to be a more coherent package and altogether enjoyable album. Gilmour’s use of blues scales over chord progressions in a minor key is truly intoxicating and joints like Breathe and Any Colour You Like exhibit Nick Mason's effortless but meticulous drumming in it’s full brilliance.

My main problem with The Wall is the length of the opus. If you have ever sat through some of Todd Rundgren's overstuffed LPs and suffered the consequences in sound quality you'll understand why 45 minute albums from the vinyl era are more than adequate. As a result, The Wall isn’t as structurally cohesive or melodically consistent as many of the seminal Floyd offerings that preceded it.
