Are you an organ donor?

No, I'm a piano donor.

Long time no see, Illuminattile. Where have you been, donating organs?

I'll do it.

Maybe a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. What practically happens when you die, if your organs can be saved? They extract them, sow you up, and otherwise you remain "as is"? Could you bury me with an open casket? I'm assuming yes, I just want to know.

It's a legitimate concern though, because I'm not religious, but some of my family may be. I don't know, I just want to know what being a donor realistically means. I guess I'll have to look at Norwegian interwebz.

My post disappeared :(

I am not an organ donor because when I die I want to be cryogenically frozen to be brought back to life at a later date. It's a personal choice.

I'm not a donor because if people found out I was, chances are doctors would be less willing to save me.

Doctors = Romanians in disguise.

By then you're dead and they might never be able to bring you back to life. But they may be able to if you let yourself be frozen now, before you're all... dead ;)

That's not how it works. In the future they'll be able to bring dead people back to life if their body is intact. It's not that much of a stretch.

But if you're all buried and rotting or have been cremated then there ain't much they can do is there?

That's just speculation. Cryonics is 99% guesswork.

"We'll freeze you in the hope that people in the future will figure out how to thaw you out and figure out how to bring you back to life."

Plus, isn't it stupidly expensive?

Yeah, it was meant as a joke. You know, as in, go kill yourself now :P

I thought the idea was to freeze you in the case that some day they might cure old age and whatever condition killed you. It just makes little sense to me to be frozen when you are already dead, because your body will be in the same condition as it was in, ie. it would be old and fucked. Even if they found a way to bring frozen people back to life, it doesn't help with the concerns that made you dead in the first place. So if your liver fails and you are frozen, you still have a useless liver when they bring you back.

I know the concept of cryonics was conceived years ago, back when people thought that by the year 2000 you could microwave a little cube and it would turn into a pizza or a steak. Technology skyrocketed over the last century, but I believe we're about to hit a threshold where the possibilities are no longer as infinite as they once seemed. Due to physical limitations.

Anyway, it was from that point of view that I made my joke :p

So seriously speaking, what's the "concept" of it? That one day they can cure whatever killed you, or is it more like, one day they might be able to clone you or something? What are the realistic expectations "in the biz"?

Naw i'm jewish and jews are supposed to perserve their bodies as they were when they were born or something like that.

Eh. It seems logical to me.

Sure it must be expensive. I aim to make enough money for that not to be a problem :)
