Film & TV After the Joker.. The Riddler?

As you know, the upcoming movie The Dark Knight will feature Batman battling it out with the Joker and Two Face.

The original plan was to have the Joker, played by Heath Ledger, return for the next film.

However, given that after his death they more than likely won't recast for the role, some changes have been made and the next villain has been revealed.

If another Batman flick is made, he will then be going up against the Riddler.

The last Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever, though no word on if he'll return. More likely than not - he won't.

Actor Gary Oldman, who plays Lt James Gordon, says of casting choices for the next film, "I don't see why not. I mean, they did it with Katie Holmes' character. I understand that this is a different circumstance, but I think another actor could do the job. I think Heath would want another actor to do the job. Maybe we don't need the Joker. Because we'll have The Riddler."

Katie's character, Rachel Dawes, will now be played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. You know Katie is too "big" now for a Batman movie.

We'll have to watch The Dark Knight first before we even consider watching the next film….though this one is getting GREAT reviews!

Not really a spoiler considering all we know is The Riddler might be part of the next movie. It's funny cause I was reading an interview with Christian Bale and he said he wasn't sure if Nolan was going to make a third or not. So I don't know.

Batman has far too many lame, camp villains. They should get Philip Seymour Hoffman in to play The Penguin.

if they do one with bane, i think it has to be a new trilogy of films. they can't just rush the whole knightfall storyline into one movie.

they would need a separate movie for each part: knightfall, knightquest, and knightsend.

they of course would need to do this upon the completion of this series, which i believe will be and should be a trilogy. but i don't think they will cuz i think the third one will be it, and everyone will move on. another 3, 6 in total, would be overkill.

i think DCU should do an animated PG-13 Knightfall, like their recent stuff, including the upcoming Gotham Knight.

i like that idea! he could probably pull off a great penguin. paul giamatti might good for that role too.

there is always mr. freeze too. arnold did not too that role justice. then again that movie he was in was shit.

if ledger is as good as it is being rumored in his role as the joker i don't know if i would want to see his character played by someone else. with the character of rachel it is different because honestly who gives a crap about her. her character really isn't that important. i kind of hope she dies in this film.

The problem is, Joker is easily the best and most iconic Batman villain. He's the archnemesis.

I think there's no way the Joker gets killed it off, he's Batman's opposite. If there's a thrid movie and he's not recast, it makes me think he's still out there and could be mentioned in a newspaper Bruce is reading "Joker still at large" or some shit like that.

Also, Scarface, Mr. Freeze, could never happen, because these Batman films are set in the real world, I can't see a dummy trying to kill Batman, or a dude with a freeeze gun. Just like Nolan said as long as he's doing the films Robin will never happen.

also i read some where on IMDB that Nolan also has a dislike for the Penguin character.

Even though its quite unrealistic i always like the Killer Croc character, he wasnt such a villan as such just a misunderstood circus show freak. Also there is a good chance Mr Zsasz could make an appearance since he was in BB. that would be a good cat and mouse thriller.

Even if joker doesnt make an appearance Harley Quinn can still take his place.

I just dont like the Riddler at all. i much rather Nolan created new villans.

i just read an interview about something you guys seem to have misunderstood. they don't try to stay in line with any existing batman storyline. like the dude who talked about knight's fall. even if they brought bane in, they would write out their own story. like people said, one of their main focus points is realism. the riddler is possible, but there is also a whole bunch of other batman villains that have never been used in movies. rahs al gul (sp?) and scarecrow are examples of that.

also, this comment of oldman's doesn't mean anything as all the script authors and the director himself have denied any talks about a third movie so far. the dark knight was only talked about three months after batman begins was released.
