Aesop Rock and artist Jeremy Fish are collaborating on an illustrated novel, The Next Best Thing, based on children’s book artwork from the 1970s.

The Def Jux recording artist, known for his obscure albums Labor Days (2001) and Bazooka Tooth (2003), and Fish explain that the book’s title pays homage to the starving artist and the creative process.

“When you come up with ideas for a living, you need to have a fail-safe way to keep going,” said Fish, whose subversive art has gained popularity in the graffiti and street-wear community.

“You have to convince yourself that whatever you're going to work (on) is the best idea ever. And even if you manage to convince yourself of this, by the time you're actually making it, it becomes the next best idea.”

Fish, who owns a skateboard design company, is also working on a skating video to be accompanied by an Aesop Rock soundtrack.

Sounds interesting, I'll defintely have to check it out.

Still haven't managed to get my hands on Kid Koala's comic book project, to which he scored a soundtrack :(
