How new is 64bit? I have a pentium 4, need to know if it's 64bit or not

Waste of time. The 64 bit windows is pants, no-one supports it.

thats what i said dumbass. i said amd's are 64 bit...and they are not that new.

but buying a computer right now just for the 64 bit processor is not advisable. the software has to be written for 64 bit to have the performance enhancements.

no, theres no boost for 32 bit. the only special thing abuot them is that they're 64 bit but u need 64 bit code.64 bit doesnt make 32 bit faster

its like u get a 200 gig hard drive,then a 400 gig hard drive comes out.the only difference is space. if u dont got more than 200 gb then theres no use for the other 200 gigs until u have 200 gigs to use

not faster at all bro. how would it be fast if the only difference is the support for 64 bit? ive read many articles that say they are not worth buying at the moment if u find an equivalent speed for cheaper because there is no speed enhancement. maybe if there was some other technology it could be faster,but there isnt

Architecturly speaking the The Intel EMT64 and the AMD 64bit proscessor are faster than X86 based P4s and X86 AMD athalons not because they are 64 bit but because they are more efficent design.

64 bit processors are faster for the following reasons.

1. They use what is called a Hyper Transport Technology.

2. They have an Integrated DDR memory controler.

Plus AMD and Intel will have dual core 64 bit chips here very soon. AMD allready has them. This is two cpus in one. Basically what im trying to tell you is P4s and X86 CPUS in general are obsolete.

The P4 has hit its limit and will unfortunatly never run any faster than what the fastest P4 is running right now. The future is bleek for X86 computing to be honest with you both a EMT64 OR an Atholon FX57 will out perform any P4 or AMD X86 Cpu to date.

wow just saw a few benchmarks today,and the amd's are blowing intel away. i guess the sites where i saw the previous benchmarks were biased beyond recognition.and the amd's are overclockable by 250Mhz. imagine if the amd's had the same number of Ghz as the P4???

im getting a new system next week,definitely gonna pickup an athlon FX

well fx 55 is like 800 dollars US. Still cheaper then p4 EE which is like 950US.

the demand for the FXis very high, which is why the price hasn't dropped much. Too many people want them compared to how many can be made. So what does a company do when the demand is high? Use a higher price so that nearly all of the product sell while return is maximized
