This is not about religion so no debating about it here please. I was just wondering that if evolution did indeed occur (as a biology major I am compelled to believe some aspects are true but not the entire picture) then I want to know, for the people who argue about the God creating the earth in the book of Genesis; they often argue that it is not known how long a day is. Was there always a 24 hour day? Could days have been longer at the formation of the planet and solar syatem to say...37 hours or even shorter to say...15 hours? Then later even out to a little more than 24? Just natural curiosity thats all. I'm trying to fugure out things in my mind. Again please no religion arguments.

back in the times when the bible was written, before then, and for some time after that,a full day was the same as a full month to us. people didnt have a modern time system like we do so the days were counted by every full moon i think.
some scientist have done studies that have concluded that thousands of years ago there were actually less than 24 hours in a full day and every day gets fractions of a second longer. so in a few hundred years from now we could have 26 hour days.

The hour is irrelevant. We made the hour up. But obviously the day/night cycle has always been the same. We just needed a good system to put it in numbers.
well if u think about it logically.......when our solar system was formed....all the planets were bunched up together, and they all started moving outward from our sun... sooo as they moved out further -the gravitational pull from the sun was less and less...which meant the number of physical hours it took for the earth to turn would have been less and less...
so yeah, a 24 hour day is only a 'recent' thing.

Yeah true, but it has somewhat settled in this position now. I think. We're not moving much anyway
I am a catholic and believe in God. I also believe in the scientific side of creation too.
I think the reference of a day refers to a period, ie. Jurassic, and not specifically a day. Throughout time, the bible has gone through many different translations and when this happens meanings can often be lost - like chinese whispers.
(Although it still raises the question, that if the world was created in 6 days-how the hell do they know!!! They werent born!)

I think I understand what you are saying. One has to have trust in the method in order to accept it's outcome, but calling it "faith" isnt the proper phrase imo.
