ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) - An 11-year-old girl has been charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude police and speeding after leading Orange Beach police on a high speed chase.
Police say the chase -- which was caught on a dash camera in a police cruiser -- started on Highway 182 in Orange Beach near the Florida line. It ended just inside the Gulf Shores city limits when the girl crashed and rolled the Chevy Monte Carol she was driving.
Police say the car hit one other vehicle during the chase, which reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Investigators say the girl was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center. She was treated for minor injuries and released.
The girl is from Florida and was vacationing in the area with family.
Greg Duck, Assistant Police Chief in Orange Beach, told NBC-15 News that the girl told police she was on her way to pick up her sister at a concert in Orange Beach.
