The Nexus S is super dope. I mean, the only issue I had was no LED notification and I found out there's an app called No LED for that shit so "there's an app for that."

Got a new update for Gingerbread today so the software is now 2.3.1 but I don't know what they fixed.

it was a minor update. the size was like 1.4MB if i remember correctly. they said dont expect much from the update so im sure its a security or performance fix.

How does an app magically add an LED?

Someone from another forum I browse bought a The Nexus S. It is predominantly iphone fan boys, and northerners. Pretty much any opinion I have they, they think the opposite. But there are a couple of android users.

Here are his initial thoughts.

Not much. But if the build is better than the i9000, it's a good start. That and the Sammy bloat were the only things I hated on my SGS.
You're speaking in the past tense. Did you get rid of your Galaxy?

Cyanogenized and overclocked my G2 to 1.2GhZ. it's capable of 1.4 with the stock kernel and up to 1.9 with custom kernels, but baby steps.

Ridiculously fast now. Just got 2217 on Quadrant at 1.2, compared to 1700 at stock before I rooted.

It's for the BLN. I presume the LED is always there, but doesn't do the notifications.

Past tense, because I removed the bloat and bought a skin. Now I don't have anything I dislike. And the plasticy back is covered by a cover. :)
That is so dumb. It's there but not for notifications? Does low battery count? If not, then when is it good for? Absolutely nothing....

I dunno how it is with the Nexus S. But on my SGS they are there for lighting up the buttons, but there is no native BLN. So by adding the right kernal you can get BLN. It just lights up keys when there is a notification, which would normally only be lit when the screen is live, even though they are the menu and return buttons.

^^ You picked one up?
Yeah, picked it up on the 16th, the day it came out.

Good question. It's not up there next to the speaker. So, the way it works is, a green square button lights up on your screen and jumps around. It's obviously not a full replication but if you want to know whether you got a text message without touching your phone, it will do that for you.

Gotcha. I never looked in to this because I thought it was there but the Galaxy S phones in the States...they too have no LEDs? I thought the Nexus S was the first one to do this.

Yeah, it wasn't on the Galaxy S either. It might have been the first Android phone not to do that. The NO LED app was a response to the Galaxy S not having it. It's a Samsung thing I'm guessin. :D

and masta, fuck you. :D

Wow. Did not know that. I'm surprised people didn't make a big deal over it. I don't want no damn floating square on my screen. When I'm studying, it helps me not pick up my phone that often to check for texts. I just stare at the LED for two seconds for a green blink. Nothing? Keep working. I can even see it from the corner of my eye. But nothing similar to that would be a real nuisance. It's such a small thing but is such a necessity.

I'm posting this from my phone. I thought it was something on my phone cooning around with me. (Talking about smileys)

^I never had a LED for notifications and it's probably why the lack of it doesn't bother me. It's something I totally don't need and would even say that a small led flickering from time to time would annoy me.

Yes. It's more gangsta that way. :D:):p

If you leave your messages unchecked, it'll flicker. You would just let them sit there unanswered for an extended period of time?

You can even alter the interval too.

Yeah well, I check my phone for time and messages from time to time and usually I keep my phone in my pocket anyway. I can see how it might be useful for some people but it's not something that I need.
