nah the Desire wont be free, I just dont have the money to buy it, even if it is only £70. After all, it is Christmas, and i've just cleared off 11 months of arrears, so i'm strapped for cash.

I'd go with the Desire if you can Gotti.

Sandeep, no idea what I'm going to do with the G1 just yet. Probably just keep it lol. I feel quite close to it. Had it for exactly 2 years today, how ironic that it was today that my G2 showed up in the mail.

Anyway I'm absolutely loving the G2 and I've already gotten used to the keyboard. Haven't unlocked it yet or put a SIM in so I'll still be carrying my G1 for calls until I do that. Got a little case and screen protector while out today.

Im gonna keep my G1 too, gonna put a PAYG sim in it, and use it for messing with. Im considering replacing the whole outer shell, as long as I can find a replacement one, as mine it dented and cracked like a mother fucker.

if that's the case and you MUST have a new phone, and it has to be one of those 2 - then i would say it'd make better sense financially to go with the galaxy apollo. its already a luxury as it is anyway so who's complaining if its a free upgrade?

just check the contract length of course and see if you can up/downgrade after x number of months.

edit: okay just seen the above post.

Samsung Apollo sucks. Mostly because of extremely low screen resolution for its size. Overall it's way inferior to Samsung's first gen Androids.

If you dont mind changing networks, you can get the Samsung Galaxy Portal for like £12-£15 a month on 3. That phone is better than many new android phones and perhaps all within that price range.

Ask Masta, he loves it. AMOLED screen, great battery life, speedy processor, big 3.7" screen, lightweight, cheaper in price.

What you're failing to understand, or you most likely do and are just disregarding it, is that people don't care if what they have can;t be used by everything yet. My dual core > your 1ghz, that's how they see it, its a numbers thing. And speaking of numbers, I do not agree at all about most apps being optimized for 528mhz processors. Some of the most dl'd apps in the market suck on my g1, mainly Angry birds but still

Yeah but it looks like the LG Optimus 2X will have a LCD screen after all :( Combined with Tegra 2 I seriously worry about its battery life.
For the amount of processing prowess you're able to get out of a dual core compared to the power consumption it uses it's worth it as long as it has a decent sized battery. The LCD does sort of suck, I'm sure we'll get a dual core with a super amoled soon enough, probably one of the lte verizon devices

In all honesty I don't think we'll see very many apps that come anywhere near close to utilizing the power of a dual core processor for at least another year. I've yet to find a single app that even maxes out the old 1GhZ Snapdragons or the new 800GhZ Scorpion in the G2. It's the same with NFC - how many real world usages do you see for that in the next 12 months? Don't get me wrong, I think NFC is easily one of the main technologies of the future, but it reminds me of when they first put Bluetooth in phones. You couldn't really DO anything with it for 2 or 3 years.

Well, if you really need all that power I guess you could live with charging it every few hours of usage. But what would you need it for in Android? We're far from seeing games that demanding and Android is too fragmented for any serious developer to consider launching a Tegra 2 dedicated game. Most apps are optimized to run on these old 528mhz qualcomm processors simply because it's what pays. And if any apps are a bit sluggish on them an old-gen 800mhz processor can handle them without any problems. Not to mention new gen 800mhz-1ghz processors which rape anything they are given to do.
For me the speed of modern phones is easily enough for 99% of things you might want to do on your phone and efficiency for every processor cycle is what they should aim to improve, not the CPU clock or amount of cores. I'm not saying that it's not cool to have a dual core beast in your phone but the truth is that people don't need it yet, especially on Android in its current form.
It's a matter of debate on Windows Phone 7 which is a different type of a system but not Android unless a high-performance version gets done and becomes popular.

Someone from another forum I browse bought a The Nexus S. It is predominantly iphone fan boys, and northerners. Pretty much any opinion I have they, they think the opposite. But there are a couple of android users.

Here are his initial thoughts.

mmmm... its nice.

less cheap/light feeling than the galaxy. lovely bit of gear.

the screen off animation is particularly awesome.

Not much. But if the build is better than the i9000, it's a good start. That and the Sammy bloat were the only things I hated on my SGS.
