I see. So right now, Ginger and Honey, neither have established "requirements," there's just a rumor that Honeycomb might require it?

Well, damn. Say Honeycomb does require certain specs, how far back do you predict the firmware would support? At least the Droid, or it will it most likely be the wave that started with the Nexus One and DInc, 1.0Ghz, screen size, etc.?
Nexus. Not that it matters, with custom ROMs.

It all depends on whether the fork the releases with a tablet-specific release. We don't really know enough yet.

I see. It's just that we haven't dealt with minimum requirements, or at least not so many, in the past. The tether thing was trivial. There's an app for that and any phone can wirelessly tether.

I'm trying to think of features that would be limited by hardware. We haven't heard of many (or any) for the next iteration of Android, but it's hard to imagine it would be something so big that a Droid couldn't handle it.

And if it is, in fact, so big, it may be buggy and not worth having the first version of right away. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

I chuckled a bit after this:

So true, but if you're rooted, there are apps. But I know how easy it is on OSX and love it.

It's even easier on Linux:

1. Press "Print Screen".
2. Press "Save".

Thus, cutting out having to press additional keys and still giving you the option to save in a location of your choice.

:)

Did we already report this? No tethering at launch for the T-Mobile G2 – Android and Me)

Still kinda curious to see how this Google TV thing pans out. Sony to unveil Google TV products Oct. 12 | Android Central

A part of me is starting to wish I was on T-Mobile. It's just the shitty reputation it has around here as per my friends. And a few other tech blogs. Leaked T-Mobile Slides Show Wi-Fi Calling On G2, More Phones In The Pipeline | Android News, Reviews, Applications, Games, Phones, Devices, Tips, Mods, Videos, Podcasts - Android Police)

I imagine T-Mobile will implement a plan like Sprint did after a month or so. That Wifi calling app is going to be awesome, on the real. So many places have open wifi hotspots these days, so you could get a smaller minutes plan and use Wifi calls most of the time.

Google TV is going to be epic.

Well, I was guilty of what that guy was talking about. I had a convo. with Casey earlier about the 80o MHz in the G2 vs. the 1.0 GHz Snapdragon in an N1 or DInc. I still don't quite understand the hardware aspect of mobile hardware, but it shed some light that I didn't understand that the Scorpion and Snapdragon were... I dunno.

I still don't understand. But he was pointing it out.

I think what it is, is that technically the N1/DInc and the G2 all have Snapdragon systems, but the Scorpion processor inside the newer Snapdragon system on the G2 is superior to the processor that's in the older Snapdragon systems like the N1. Better GPU also.

^^ so that makes sense to why there was confusion about whether the G2 has scorpion or snapdragon. but it has both: a scorpion inside the snapdragon structure.

Exactly.

Btw, somebody did a Quadrant test on a stock G2 and got a score of 2000!

For comparison, a rooted HTC Desire running CyanogenMod gets about 1400, a stock Galaxy S is confusing, because I've seen reports as as low as 900 and as high as 1600.

I was telling Smacky on GTalk the other day, once G2 gets rooted, overclocked and running CyanogenMod, we're probably looking at 2500+.

Shows how far Android has come in 2 years....my G1 gets less than 200 on a Quadrant test :( lol

oh yea, the G1 gets seriously low scores compared to those new devices.

on another note, my mums kinda getting into the whole android thing, asking about 4 people who are looking to upgrade (that ive witnessed lately), do you have the samsung galaxy s? are you going to buy it? lol. i want my mum to get the portal, because i'd root it, and it's even lower than her budget, if you do the cashback offer; meaning it'll cost less than £350 for a 24 month contract, with a free phone. 3rd party website.

also. does anyone experience any bugs with the cubed music player in android? once the screen stands by during playback, it cant be unlocked, turned back on for use therefore be able to return to the previous screen. so my only option then is to reboot. G1.

Looks like what we earlier thought was the Lexikon. They never showed the slide out board, but the front definitely has those grooves under the haptic buttons that look like what was codenamed the Lexikon. Could change, though. I remember earlier in this thread you referred to the Droid as "Sholes" which ended up becoming the codename for the Droid and it got the Droid name instead. Shadow became the Droid X, etc.

I don't think Lexikon sounds cool...most don't even know what a "lexicon" is.

I just wish there was a way to quantify these Quadrant scores. How much faster are apps opened, how much smoother are games and scrolling, etc. Like in seconds or ms. Something that takes it from just meaningless numbers and into something with substance.

If I had a job and made my own money, I would not feel guilty buying a tablet on the side. But not now.

Honestly, the iPad still looks the best and most well-established to me.
