People needed to complain how shitty the Eris was when it first came out. Keyboard and dialer lag, the silent call bug, and Sense just being shitty and slowing the phone down on a phone with only 528 Mhz.

Welp, I told Casey earlier...I got my Droid from VZW. Well, it's in the mail, should be here Monday with two-day shipping and them not shipping on weekends. So.... EXCITED!!!

^^ wait a sec... was your droid eris faulty afterall? lucky you...
Oh yeah, it was faulty the whole time but, honestly, I could have lived with it. The speaker truly did go out several times a week causing me to either miss calls or go silent during a call. People would freak out when I had to reboot my phone and they would call during that time and not get an answer. There was also silly lag on it.

Both complaints would have been tolerable, but after hearing about others on forums getting Droids and even Incredibles (Desires) for free, I wanted in on a device more capable than the Eris for root and OCing purposes. So I bitched and got it.

The lady, who was very nice, said she had a Droid and she too had the same issues I was having and that it was a 2.1 thing. After further research, it appears to be an HTC thing and also HTCs on VZW only that have the 50% without signal bug as well as the silent call bug. EVO and N1 users do not seem to complain of this and those are on two different networks yet still made by HTC.

I have a sick feeling that they will send me a Devour on 'accident' though. Asurion, the phone insurance company of choice here, has stopped sending Droid owners, who pay them monthly, Droids because of short supply. There are rumors the Droid is nearing it's EOL and so they are offering Droid owners the Ally or Devour, both lesser phones, if they were to break their Droids. I figured VZW would be bitches too and screw me on that one too.

You never know. I will shoot up HQ, though, if that happens. And take a Droid X on my way out. :)

You have a HTC Droid Eris and want a Moto Droid?

If that's the case you should be receiving a Moto Droid because its what they offered you, so long as they havent already discontinued them. If they promised you, then they should deliver. Otherwise they should notify you or state in the T&C's that they may not be able to deliver the exact model and therefore they will ship an alternative one out to you, i.e. the Moto Devour or LG Ally.

Um....what?

I have an Eris and they sent me a refurbished Eris thinking it would solve my issues. It didn't. Because this phone is destined to fail harder, I wanted an upgrade, though for free. I wanted the Droid. The Ally and Devour suck dick. So I told them that I wanted my phone replaced with a Droid so I would no longer have the problems, although it was more for having a better phone. Wolf in sheep's clothing, really.

Asurion is the insurance company for the phone. I do not have insurance. Those that do have insurance and do have a Droid and want to file a claim, are getting Devours and Allies instead of the same Droid they bought because they claim there is a "shortage." So if those that pay insurance companies can't get a Droid out of them now, I find it weird VZW only put up a small fight to send me one for free while Asurion won't give them out, period.

ummm..ok. so long as you got your droid.. that's so lucky.

anyway. so whenever i try to open a text message. it shows me a glimpse for a few seconds before it closes the current screen and returns me to the home screen. so annoying. maybe its conflicting with handcent (which i never use anyway since its really slow). im about to uninstall handcent to see if it helps.

android market has been very sluggish for the past few months also. it always refreshes every few seconds and takes forever to load the list of apps i have stored.

I have no idea what all the cache clearing options there are on the clockwork recovery thing, but every time I load a new ROM, I clear the Dalvik..Davlik? cache, the battery stats, etc. I just find that that helps clear any issues I could have later in the future with caches ruining installations for some ROMs.

I dunno when the last time was when you cleared absolutely everything from your phone, but I'm sure you've had your G1 for a while. Maybe doing a factory restore or something will help unclutter the phone's memory. Or maybe clearing all types of cache from the recovery thing will help. I know it's something I would try just to see.

i dont see how battery stats would slow the phone down or affect it unless a new battery was to be installed.
Neither do I. But I don't see why clearing the cache of everything would hurt since something is clearly cluttering up your phone's memory and cache is usually the culprit.

I think I need a new battery for my G1. It seems to shut off quite regularly before even draining down completely. Like it'll say it's at 49% or something and then just die.

I've cleared the stats, etc.

I'm jonesing for a new phone at this point though. I didn't intend to take another contract out before I move to the US, but I may just have to, and pay the early termination fee when that time comes. Depends on what deal I can get, but also there's nothing that really meets my criteria right now. I'd get the Nexus but I don't want to be on Vodafone. Could get the Desire and flash a vanilla ROM over it, cos I don't want something with Sense UI. But, part of me feels like I should just make do until something comes out that ticks all the boxes. We'll see.

I'm not familiar with unlocking GSM phones but could you not buy a T-Mobile phone in the UK and then just bring it to the US and just use it here with T-Mobile US SIM card? Assuming there is a T-Mobile phone you like. Galaxy S?

Yeah, I could SIM-unlock it and do that. Chances are I will want to be with Verizon once I get to the US though. But if I get a high-end phone, I'll probably still be able to sell it for a decent price once I get there. I'm basically just weighing up my options right now. If I can get a good deal on a Galaxy S I might do that, but I'd really like something with a QWERTY.
