just finished flashing the stable 5.0.7 cyanmod rom, waiting for it to boot.

edit: the x on the modded boot screen comes with the red, blue, yellow, green colours as well as cyanogenmod's sky/baby blue colour.

edit2: dont know if this was in the previous version (test-7) but the blue x makes an android logo in the centre (from electricity).

it seems to be working well. no 3d gallery unless you flash it yourself. but the 3d gallery is no big deal to me on the G1, im content with the default one for now. maybe the 3d one on future phones.

my friend has just got the 3GS before i managed to get a chance to root it. she forgot her phone last month when i was meant to do it for her. oh well i bet she paid stupid money for the iphone. prior to that she got scammed over ebay having received an empty box after paying over £150 for what was meant to be the iphone.

my point is, why spend that kind of money and take a backwards step, when that £250-£300+ will get you a great phone after you're done with the G1 with the majority of latest Android features...

Quick question Casey. I'm confortable switching between Cyan's ROM's without worrying about anything but If I were to try someone else's ROM what's the best thing to do, just wipe and flash like everything else? Or I'm thinking I flash the defanged first then flash the ROM I want to try out? What do you think about this? By the way the ROM I want to try out is HTCClay's SuperBad...it's based off of Cyans Mod so yeah

ARon I have that ROM downloaded, I was going to try it myself but decided against it. It supposedly includes a JIT for 2.1, but Cyanogen said it's not stable. I'm just going to wait for him to release 2.2.

You should be able to just wipe and flash that ROM though if you want. If you do, let me know how it is.

Btw, what's everyone's LinPack scores? Download LinPack from the Market and let it run, let me know what score you get.

It basically shows how fast your phone runs - depending on processor clocking, which ROM, etc.

Check this out:

http://www.greenecomputing.com/apps/linpack/linpack-by-device/

At the moment, the highest scores are coming from people with Droids running 2.1 , overclocked to 1300mHZ, closely followed by stock Nexus One's running 2.2..... wait till you see the scores from people running overclocked Droid's once they get 2.2!!!

My score is around 5Mflops. It doesn't work with JIT for me. Actually there's a very nice version of JIT hack for Spica but there are a few apps that fail to work with it.

edit: Wow at people getting results over 20Mflops with Spica without overclocking oO
I wasn't aware that it can pack that much punch.
edit2: Someone with Samsung moment (which has the same hardware as Spica) scored over 46 lol

Samsung developing an iPod touch competitor? | Android Community

SAMSUNG DEVELOPING AN IPOD TOUCH COMPETITOR?

The latest rumor has Samsung prepping to go head to head with the iPod touch. This device will be running Android and will be a multi media focused device. There is currently no indication that this device will be another Android phone.

A recent Bluetooth filing from Samsung points to a MID is currently in development. This MID goes by the design name YP-MB2. The YP in this title stands for Yepp which Samsung use in classifying their music players. The MB2 part suggests that this is the successor to the MB1. Other rumors have this device outfitted with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an AMOLED screen, a web browser and unnamed version of Android. We’ll stay on top of this rumor and see if any more information is leaked.

Sony Ericsson: Walkman Android Tablet/MP3 Player? | Android Community

SONY ERICSSON: WALKMAN ANDROID TABLET/MP3 PLAYER?

Sony might have a few extra plans for Android up their sleeve. They could have a new Walkman in the making that will powered by Android. There also could be a Sony CyberShot Android based Camera in the making as well. According to the rumors, Sony plans to make an official announcement introducing these products next month.

Rumored Specs:

* Display 2.6 “TFT touchscreen display
* 5.1 megapixel camera, but without LED-flash.
* GPS
* Bluetooth
* 3G
* 600MHz processor

There is currently no solid information on the camera but the tablet is said to be running Android and look similar to the X10 Mini. The version of Android that is preinstalled is currently unknown as well, we’re hoping for 2.1 at the minimum. Could Android revitalize the once popular Walkman line? I think so and we’ll find out if this is true very soon.

Android Updates Will be Coming Once a Year in the Future | Android Community

ANDROID UPDATES WILL BE COMING ONCE A YEAR IN THE FUTURE

There’s no doubt that updating the Android platform is one of the most talked about elements of the mobile Operating System since its launch late 2008. As more devices get released, and more and more of them feature all sorts of tweaks to the OS, we’ve all seen that getting the latest update can seem like pulling teeth. Andy Rubin, current lead of the Android team for Google, knows this is a situation, and has gone ahead and cleared up one of the biggest lingering questions we’ve had: when will it all calm down?

According to Rubin, the Android updating steamroller has slowed down quite a bit since updates began rolling out. And he would be right. It seemed like only moments between updates 1.0, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, and even 2.0 to 2.1. In fact, they all happened so fast that some manufacturers out there, like HTC, just decided to skip some, in favor of others. But, that’s all changing, and that’s on purpose. Rubin wants the whole system to slow, so that, as of right now, Android looks to be updating two times per year.

But he wants a more Apple-like updating procedure to be the case some time in the near future. He says that, as things settle down and developers begin to keep up, Android will start getting updated only once per year. That would make it a lot easier for developers and manufacturers, without a doubt, and it would mean that there probably wouldn’t be so many handsets out there running on months-old out-dated software any longer. Of course, that would also mean Android users wouldn’t have multiple things to look forward to in a year, but hey, easier is so much better.

So, I'm eligible for an Hardware Upgrade with my provider (Rogers) since I'm close to the end of my 3yr contract (Yes Canada is gay, we have 3 yr contracts)... and I would prefer to not change prividers because I was able to argue and get a great plan. I was sure that Rogers, my provider, was going to get the HTC Desire... but they're not. It's rumored that we'll be getting the Galaxy S but that's just speculation. The N1 can work on the network, but I'd have to buy it outright from Google at 600$ or so ... which is pretty damn expensive since I'm not made of money. lol. Rogers is gay so they'll be getting the iPhone 4G ... So I'm thinking about getting the iPhone at a cheeper price and selling it to some fruity fan boy and picking up a different device (since I could probably get 600-700 from some sucker lol). I was looking into the X10, but I've heard more bad than good about it.

Just not sure what to get ...

Desire from Telus and unlock it.
N1 from Google
Samsung S Galaxy (looks really awesome sauce)

I really wanted the HTC Incredible, but I don't think it will come to Canada.

What does everyone suggest? Or should I just wait till something else comes out... I'm happy with my G1, but I could use a change and I don't want my HUP (Hardware Upgrade) to go to waste. Does anyone have news about upcoming devices coming up here? It's been pretty quiet here as of late, and my sources aren't telling me much. Else from Bell receiving the HTC Legend.... *yawn*

I hate Wireless providers here, lol...

/\ Get the N1 if you can. You won't regret it. You'll be able to put a fully working 2.2 FroYo update on it as soon as you get it, so far you can only get 2.2 for the N1.

If not, the Samsung and the Desire are great too.

Samsung Galaxy Tab revealed -- Engadget

If only there were more tablets in the world, you know? Samsung has heard the call, and truth be told they might have a nice crack at creating something desirable. The 7-inch Galaxy Tab (previously referred to as the S-Pad), runs Android with Samsung's TouchWiz UI on top (similar to the Galaxy S sitting next to it). According to the Tweets by Samsung Blog South Africa -- an odd place indeed to make this sort of unveiling -- it has a "high resolution" screen, and it's supposed to be AMOLED if an earlier leak on the "S-Pad" is to be believed. That S-Pad info also mentioned a Samsung Apps store, which would make sense because as far as we know Google isn't letting "official" Android Market-equipped, Google-blessed tablets out of the gate just yet.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

I've heard there's a battery problem with Motorola Dext and Cliq - that it usually last less than a day of use.
Anyone using them?

^Oh yeah I can't even imagine how awesome would a super-AMOLED Samsung tablet would be but Ipad couldn't touch it. Even if Samsung used their usual S-PVA panel that would still be a killer display.
