can android users share their apps unlike those on the iphone?

also, on the HTC Dream (G1), what is the sound quality through headphones like whilst travelling? (If anyone has tested it - is it loud/clear enough? What are the headphones like?)

thanks.
The sound through the head phones is great. There is no EQ on the default music app, but i don't think it needs one, but im sure there are others with EQs.

As for sharing apps, i dont see the need for it? If the app is free (ie most of them) then they can just goto the market and download it. As for pay apps, if you know the right sources, you can download from web if your really arent willing to pay. But I do recommend paying, as then you automatically get the updates.

tried the headphones when they came through the post yesterday. they sounded quite good to me - i just need to put it to the test on a tram now (because they are so noisy). I hope its loud enough to hear the music on a noisy journey - because you cant louden the mp3's like on the iPod (from iTunes).

Which phone should my brother get out of these which he is interested in?

Nokia E71
Samsung Jet
Nokia 6700
Sony Ericsson Satio (This is very expensive - not out yet)

He needs one within the next week or so because his contract is due to expire. I dont want him spending loads because frankly, i dont think he can finance it.

He knows a mate who works for o2 and can get him a discount, so im thinking the E71 is a good choice for value and features. He really likes the samsung jet but thats on all the other networks besides O2. he just likes the look of the 6700.

As for the Satio, its out within the next 3 months, is a HD cameraphone (12.1MP) in addition to other features. thats going to be like £40/month. He should be spending around £20/month and be sensible.

The E71 is a piece of shit. tell him to get an Android phone. Samsung Galaxy will be out on O2 pretty soon.

HTC Hero will rape your siblings.
My cousin got one a couple of weeks ago. It is a fucking BEEEASSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

When the super l337 hackers optimise the ROM a bit more I may flash it to my G1. Did it once a few weeks ago but since the actual Hero has more RAM than the G1 and the hackers had only just started optimising it, it was a bit laggy. On my cousins actual Hero it is smooooooth as fuck tho.

My brother is not very literate with these things, he doest really care about the OS. he just wants a good phone that is reliable and looks nice. he wants enough minutes and texts, web usage on a phone with a "green button and a red button" as quoted by him. and this gives me the impression that the allowance and the look of the phone is the only real thing that interests him.

he's already gone and ordered hte E71 yesterday.

Also, he has a thing about not liking samsung phones besides the Jet and his Armani phone (which he only bought because it said Giorgio Armani on it - the phone itself is actually terrible, but looks nice though). He doesnt read reviews on phones and judge for himself. He sees a phone and wants it because of the looks and because of those decisions he's made he has been stressed for the past 18 months with his touchscreen.

Now that i told him he should read reviews online and search products to make solid and well thought through decisions on what he wants be it phones, parts and accessories or anything else he wants to buy. - he only goes and replies to me, "oh you can check it for me then because you know whats best".

He has a laptop of his own now. Top spec and everything. He uses it about once/twice a month. My mum shouldve just purchased the lower spec exact same looking version. He copies his cousin by hooking the laptop up to the hi-fi stereo to play the music louder. he uses the computer mainly as an mp3 player and to check email on a monthly basis. WASTE OF MY MUM's £400!! - We thought he would use it to improve his skills and do tests online etc... We've even suggested it to him, and ive shown him how to use most things.

He is 25 btw!!

yeah exactly. I understand that you can watch movies and that a bigger screen is cool but I prefer a smaller, reliable phone good for calls and typing.
I thought that it's a matter of getting used to it but after a month of using a thouch screen Samsung I was happy to use my old school k800i back. If a phone has a big screen it needs to have a qwerty keyboard too.

texting works great on the iPhone...I'm speaking from what iPhone users have told me and from what I've experienced on the iTouch...which pretty much has the same keyboard. Typing on other multi touch screen devices doesn't work as well, as on my G1 for example...it seems like it lags or something...but texting on the iphone is no problem...

in the end, it all comes down to what you get used to and what your habits are. masta, you'll always be everything anti-cool when it comes to technology and you'll never get used to the cool stuff because you're so nerdy, anti-cool....which is cool in my book, just saying...point is, your opinion doesn't speak for the majority of people who've used touch screens for texting, is what i'm trying to say.

iPhone texting does indeed suck ass. All touch screen texting sucks ass compared to a full physical keyboard like on the G1.

I mean, if you don't send a lot of texts or emails it's cool. But I send a shitload of texts, update my blog, update multiple Twitter accounts, Facebook, MySpace, send emails, IM chat with my peoples, etc etc etc........if I had a touchscreen-only phone I'd get frustrated very quickly.

The Hero did tempt me though, even though it's touchscreen only. The Virtual Keyboard on that is much better than other one's I've checked out including the iPhone. I've actually installed the HTC virtual keyboard as found on the Hero, onto my rooted G1, for the rare occasions where I use the VK.
