I have a sidekick, which they call "hiptop" over here for some unknown homo reason. It's ok, plays up a lot though.

I miss the old Nokia 3315's.

These were unbreakable! You could drop, throw or even run over these phones without even worrying about damage. (besides a little scratch here and there)
One day I threw this phone over my friends house, landed in his pool, got it out, dried it with a hair dryer.. and it started again like brand new again.
i'm pretty sure that phone was called the 3410. My mum had this phone, and i remeber the butteryfly screensaver which looked as though it was flying to and from the screen of the phone.

also my snake high score was something like 3684 on this handset.

We called that model a 3310 in the UK. I remember though, there was a Nokia that was rubber, came out around the same time, you could literally bounce it off the ground and it would be perfectly ok.

definately 3410.

there was one very old Nokia cell that had the Snake game on it. coolest phone ever.
Wasn't the one you're talking about the one which was labelled as the "matrix" phone? and it had the slide and the scroll button. chuncky phone.

With the latest HTC and Samsung phones the smartphone wars are getting hotter.
Now Samsung has announced the Omnia Pro to be released in 3Q 2009:
Samsung B7610 OmniaPRO - Full phone specifications

800mhz processor, dedicated graphics and a high resolution 16M color AMOLED screen make it look pretty sweet.
Just a shame that most of the greatest phones operate on Windows Mobile.

It looks like a nice alternative to slightly more powerful Omnia 2 and Samsung Jet which don't have keyboards.

On the other hand considering that the slightly slower HTC touch pro which is already out has a price tag of 800$ that might mean that high-end phones will start getting more expensive with each generation.

There's also an interesting battle between the newest non-smartphones which are what interests me the most since that's where the "race" itself takes place.

Samsung Pixon12 (which is a totally refreshed version of the basic 8mpx pixon):
Samsung M8910 Pixon12 - Full phone specifications

Sony Ericsson Satio(Idou):
Sony Ericsson Satio (Idou) - Full phone specifications

-They both have 12 megapixel cameras with autofocuses, image stabilization and everything you will encounter in a mid-range digital camera.
-Samsung's AMOLED screen is way superior to SE's LCD, same with HD1 video recording.
-Sony used pretty efficient 3d accelerator which is on par with that in the PSP BUT supports newer technologies. It also rocks a better, 600mhz processor.
Samsung is ready to be out this month while Satio is delayed.
-From what I've heard Satio was also supposed to have a battery which would last for up to 3 weeks. It's not as much as the latest philips Xenium with almost 2 month battery life (tested) but quite a lot considering its hardware.

There's also a cool mid-end Sony Ericsson phone coming soon:

I would love to see interesting phones from other brands but unfortunately it seems that Samsung and SE have left everyone behind.
Nothing nice planned from Nokia, Motorola and others.

You sure love Sony Ericssons Masta.
Why? Not really.
They are just making probably the best phones lately (on par with Samsung which makes worse quality phones).
Just look at their specs.
And there's simply nothing that could compare from other brands because HTC sticks to smartphones while Nokia and Motorola are left totally behind.

non-smartphones are almost ancient to me...
It depends what you need in your phone. Basically the fact that a phone is not a smartphone doesn't mean its ancient since there are many new great non-smartphones.
A lot of people don't need any smart OS on their phones.

can android users share their apps unlike those on the iphone?

also, on the HTC Dream (G1), what is the sound quality through headphones like whilst travelling? (If anyone has tested it - is it loud/clear enough? What are the headphones like?)

thanks.

I still have my little w810i, which I completely cracked and is great for me. I have 4GB of space on it and I love it that I can easily switch my pictures from my camera to my cellphone and on a PS2/3.

I'm getting this beast when I get enough money in two weeks.

w950i.

I would kill myself if I had to use a phone with no camera, no memory card slot and symbian on it :p Are you convinced that it's the phone that you want?

From wikipedia:

Problems:

Connectivity has been an ongoing problem with the UIQ3 suite of phones from Sony Ericsson and the Mac OS X iSync utility that Mac users use to synchronise a mobile phone with the computer. As of February 2008 there are still widespread problems reported with these phones for Mac users.[citation needed]

The W950 is also prone to water damage, which is not covered by the original warranty. When moisture gets into the phone, the touchscreen is usually the first thing to stop working. When it does it is impossible to do a master reset, access the media memory, and effectively everything that cannot be done with just the keypad and the scroll wheel.

Now guys, look at THIS:
Android Sony Ericsson XPERIA Rachael leaks, specs thrill - GSMArena.com news

Photos and specs of the first Android-based Sony Ericsson handset leaked online. Codenamed Sony Ericsson Rachel, the new handset will be the next member of the premium XPERIA brand and will pack top of the line functionality.

Sony Ericsson will be the third major manufacturer to join the Android bandwagon, after HTC and Samsung. And what an entry it will be as the Sony Ericsson Rachael looks like one monster of a handset, easily surpassing the other Android handsets announced so far.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Rachael phone is based on the Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon platform, that provides a 1GHz CPU and dedicated graphics acceleration. The connectivity options of the chipset are also top-notch with Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G with HSDPA all onboard.

The fully-touch operated phone comes complete with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera, a 3.5 mm jack and a standard miniUSB jack. Probably the best part of the Sony Ericsson Rachael is its 4" touchscreen that will to come with the exciting WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels).

The official announcement of Sony Ericsson Rachel is scheduled for later this year, but as of now there is no information about the planned availability or pricing of the handset.
