The Joe Biden & Sarah Palin debate

Not quite. The moderator was pretty decent, wasn't so obviously in the tank for Obama as people were expecting, she did have a moment where she cut off Palin.

Palin did much better than anyone was probably expecting. Not exactly the same person that was shown in the ABCNews and CBSNews interviews. Biden didn't make any historic gaffes. He really did what was needed on him which was not to fuck up.

Drudge report poll
Who Won the VP Debate?
Right now out of over 41,000 votes it is 76% for Palin with over 31,000 votes and 22% for Biden with over 9,000. 2% for neither
according to MediaCurves.Com - A Service of HCD Research Inc. , independents swayed more to Biden with 69% thought Biden won while 31% thought Palin won.

Oh and wtf was with Palin's closing remarks? Is freedom going to disappear if Obama wins?
so which poll is more precised?

I was glad to see that I wasn't the only one sick of Palin and McCain constantly throwing around the maverick line. Joe Biden got sick of it too.

Now, Palin was coached very well. She held her own in the sense that she didn't embarrass herself and had an answer to everything. Now, and this is more of a personal thing, but I can't stand people who talk about things they don't understand. When Palin is talking, she's saying the right things that the campaign wants her to say, but she doesn't know shit about them on her own. Biden, on the other hand, appeared to know what he was talking about, even though he exaggerated some things. For example, McCain didn't say he wouldn't sit down with the Prime Minister of Spain.

But hey, Palin wasn't picked to sway voters like me. She was picked as VP to sway Wal-Mart moms.

Did she even answer a question? She was going on about North Korea and Kim Jung Ill then reverted back to Afghanistan because she was just too overwhelmed.

She held herself well though, but it was just so unconvincing. She lacks the substance to be a vice president.

Ok i just watched it on youtube again.

It is just SO obvious that she rehearsed 90% of her answers. She couldnt answer questions on so many thing e.g. john mccains stance on deregulation. she just kept reverting back to the taxes and started going on about her own "track record" as an alaskan governer.

umm, what the fuck? and Puff - that poll is clearly bullshit. i mean this isn't a democrat v republican thing. its so clear that she was overwhelmed and had no idea what she was going on about.

this is just embarrassing that for a country like america to be putting osmeone like her up there as a VP candidate. absolutely embarrassing.

Yea...Palin exceeded expectations. Which were universally low. She's creepy to me. I don't trust winkers. Everytime Biden was talking about something she thought she could answer well she smiled like the damn cheshire cat.

Overall it was a bit of an anti-climax, I think Biden should have pointed Palin's lack of experience and naivety instead of just attacking McBain and going for the pc angle.

Even though Biden 'won' he could have still put the nail in the coffin.
I guess the overall purpose was not to damage the campain and just get through it.

so which poll is more precised?
You have to look at who is presenting the poll. People that due polling for a living are different from a one man run website. Matt Drudge's Drudge Report is just a site that links to articles and gets tens of millions of hits a day, often more hits than main stream media networks.

First off to say it is bullshit is completely ignorant. It is a simply question followed by a vote. Everyone visits drudgereport, EVERYONE. Dems, Reps, Indies, libersals, conservatives, everyone in the main stream media.

Out of the almost 30 million hits in the past 24 hours almost 400 thousand voted on his poll. There is no "bullshit" in the poll, it is straight forward with no hiden questions and words. It is clear you only call it "bullshit" because it doesn't show the results you are wanting to see.

With that said, every poll is going to be different depending on who is providing the polling and who the pollster is. Frank Luntz has always has always been one of the more interesting pollsters. MSNBC poll show Biden won by wide percentage and Palin won by huge numbers on FOX News poll. Interesting to see that the AOL poll shows Palin at 47% and Biden at 45% with just over 470,000 votes.

For anyone that is interested, and maybe trying to keep an open mind or that isn't completely already in the tank for a certain canidate (if it weren't obviously that everyone here is) here are some fact checking articles.

We shouldn't judge who won by open online polls though, zealous people from both sides can cheat and vote as many times as they want. CNN and CBS polls show Biden winning the debate

These were the highlights for me:

The beginning:

PALIN: Nice to meet you.

BIDEN: It's a pleasure.

PALIN: Hey, can I call you Joe?

BIDEN: (OFF-MIKE) Fuck off.

PALIN: Thank you.

Then this:

Palin: Now a leader like Ahmadinejad who is not sane or stable when he says things like that is not one whom we can allow to acquire nuclear energy, nuclear weapons. Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, the Coen brothers, Sammy Sosa, others who are dangerous dictators are one that Obamadinejad, uh.. Barackadinejad has said he would be willing to meet with without preconditions being met first.

Who's McLellan? According to Palin, he's the commanding general in Afghanistan.

Wait, who's David McKiernan then?

Also, online polls are bullshit for the simple fact that there are overzealous supporters out there who probably voted more than once.

I'm not, but I'm British. I watched it live last night. I was impressed with Biden (never seen him speak before). Palin's 'answers' seemed a bit fixed and rehearsed, rather than actually dealing with the questions.

I know I didnt feel like she really answered anything. Shes like a student who crammed for an exam. All I got from her was how gosh darn great Americans are, John mccain the maverick and alaska consarnit. I picture Ralph wiggum when hes like 'Im Idaho!'

the result is bullshit because it means nothing. Biden had substance and provided a vision and a plan of what him and Obama plan on doing for their terms. What did Palin offer? More and more bullshit rhetoric. Her answers sounded so rehearsed because she wasn't able to answer the more difficult questions. She kept going back to certain themes and issues, which illustrates she didnt know what she was talking about.

It's bullshit because, bias aside, Biden clearly had more substance to him than Palin. He actually SPOKE about shit. Palin didn't. HEnce why the poll is bullshit because it doesn't reflect the reality of what was the debate. And just goes to show how stupid some americans are.

See the debate with McCain and Obama - if you showed me a poll result like that in favour of McCain i would have disagreed with it, but i would have understood the justifications for it because McCain DID handle himself well and did offer substance. So it is reasonable to see why people would perceive McCain as the better performer. But Palin? No.
