Brazil: Ronaldo - Is his career over?

Ronaldo's contract expires at the end of the month and it looks like he will get replaced.

Though I am no one to judge, it looks like Ronaldo has lost his love for the game and maybe the money and fame had contributed to that as well as his past injuries. As much as I hate to say this, it looks like his career has come to an end. Do you agree?

There is nothing more I would like to see then a world cup with Brazil legends Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Cafu, Ronaldinho, and players that are still on the squad: Adriano, Kaka, Robiniho, Ze Roberto - basically the whole 2006 world cup squad.

It's also been confirmed that the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil - which is great news!!!

Though Ronaldo won't be playing in the 2010 world cup, Fifa hosting the WC in Brazil might just motivate him and some of the former star players to get into shape and start competing again.

there isnt a hope in hell of Ronaldo playing at the 2014 World Cup. He will be 38 then. have you seen the pics of Ronaldo lately. He is about 3 stone over weight. tbh, i think his career is over. And you are right. He has lost his hunger for the game.

Seen pictures of him in recent papers, he really is out of shape, huge belly. I'm not criticizing him because it's his life and he can do what he wants but he hasn't even handed in his retirement yet, it's gonna take a lot for him to play professionally again. It's a shame he has to go out like this, he's one of the greats imo.

My hopes aren't too high for Ronaldo playing but he could still play at 38 - Cafu was 36 at the last WC and if he gets called on by Dunga, he'll play at 40. Anything over 40 might be "too old"....

Pele retired pretty late tho right? cuz if he did...there might be a big chance of Cafu and Ronaldo still playing, and thats if Ronaldo can prove to Dunga that he can get his act together.

In this day and age of football, anything over 35, you're very unlikely to be starting. You might be thrown on a sub if you're lucky.

Only a handful can play at that age, usually, it's a very special handful.

Ronaldo's exit from football was left with trannies. What a way to go. lol

Players who are over 30 are a little too old and managers will begin to look for replacements. Unless your Martin Laursen, that is.

^^ah shut up, Laursen has dodgy knees lol

Its doubtful that Ronaldo will play again after his latest injury. if he does come back, i doubt that he will play at the highest level and his injuries wont allow him to play until 38.

Damn, there was nothing better than watching Ronaldo at his best.what a player.

i know. its sad when a career that had yet even more potential didnt allow for him to shine as much with all the setbacks.

Laursen is out Mr. Reliable. If only he didnt have 2 years of being on the sidelines due to injuries he could have helped us more...

Last season was a great one for him and the club.

He has a dodgy knee. Hopefully he's past it all and stays clear from any further injury. He deserves all the time out on the pitch he can get cos he is quality!

^^If Laursen never suffered those knee injuries he would likely be still playing with AC Milan and not shitty Aston Villa. j/k. He is a good defender. Brilliant in the air.

I dont give a fuck, Ronaldo is the greatest player ive seen and as Batistuta put it "Ronaldo is Football". His career will most likely end at Flamengo, but hes got 2 years left in him, if that.

I saw the pics of his fatness, shocking as just under a year ago he was looking like this:

^^ when did batista mention ronaldo???

damn man ronaldo was in shape, i wish there was some way we can reach out to him...to get him to play again....Rolando is like the 2pac of soccer....all i want is one more world cup with ronaldo (if not many more)...after that he can play in clubs...i want the 2006 world cup roster playing at the next world cup or the world cup after that...

i wanna see the world cup live with my dad....not in south africa...but maybe brazil...i think i will be financially stable by then and have gotten my shit together so i can probably afford going down there...but who knows..that's 8 years from now....

i just wish ronaldo was playing again....like someone in this thread said, there is nothing like watching ronaldo and the brazil team play soccer...

i realized that's another thing that gives me a peace of mind...watching brazil play with ronaldo, roberto carlos, cafu, ze roberto, adriano, and the whole 06 wc squad.....

thats why im addicted to playing world cup 2006 for ps2...anyone know if Rolando is still on the brazil squad for fifa 2008 for ps3??

^Dont think he is. However on Pro Evo you can put him in the Brazil Squad.

Batistuta the Argentine player not the Wrestler Batista lol. He mentioned him awhile back.

The 2006 roster will never play in 2010, one reason is that they are past it and too old and another is that Dunga has a weird selection policy and plays some drab European type football which does not suit Brazil.

Adriano is a player who could be awesome, he did well at Sao Paulo and is in shape again, got back in the Brazil side too, hopefully under Mourinho he will be back to his best.

PES sucks from what it looked like, i'm down with FIFA man, i gotta get ps3/fifa 08...

i'm really thinking and planning out a trip for the WC 2014 tho in brazil...i gotta see that at least once in my life time u know..every soccer fan should see a WC game up close and live....i have yet to see it...

lol at batista the wrestler...ya i thought it was the wrestler...

dunga is making too many changes..why did perrara quit or retire or whatever? damn man.....dunga might not even let ronaldinho play, which sucks....he doesn't want players on the squad just cuz of their celeb status......but he forgets, thats the part of the magic of the brazilian team...players like ronaldo only have these celeb statuses cuz they are that damn good at what they do....he's disregarding that whole fact of how they got their status....but ronaldo does need to get back in shape...and it sucks he won't play anymore (anytime soon that is)...there is a small small chance he might tho....i wish he would....i just want to see him play again...his hardest....maybe by 2014?..u never know man....brazil is his home, he's going to be motivated to play, so i'm sure he will force him self to get back in shape...it will be like jordan coming back to the NBA, it will be like TUPAC coming back resurrected, or better yet amaru releasing an OG album. ..it would be like the vancouver canucks winning the Stanley cup..maybe..lol..

only time can tell what will happen with ronaldo's career..i just hope he plays again...

ronaldo was the best in the 90s. he was what made football a lot more popular to kids growing up in that era. hope he gets back on track and has a great end to his career. not a sad or disappointing one.
