Philosophy

Yeshua I think if you don't want this thread to get side-tracked you should give your definition of philosophy (just so we're all on the same point) and then briefly state what exactly you want to talk about.

Maybe it's just me but I don't really get what you're saying. I understand all the individual posts but I don't really see the question I'm supposed to discuss.

Is there a clear difference between the philosophy you're talking about and making an attempt to see the world how it really is (through science for example, evolution has helped me understand myself a lot better)? Is it philosophy to understand the way the human mind and a society work and rejecting pre-conceived notions in light of this?
I am interested in themes of Paradox and Duality. Specifically anything that promotes an unorthodox way of thinking.

I didn't wanted to refresh the whole thread but I found this from old thread by salar.

i chose philosophy as one of the subjects to do this year and i was having a talk with my mate who did a similar subject a while back ago. Apparently in the final exam they had one question, which was:
What is courage?

Everyone wrote pages and pages on courage to explain what courage is and what courage is not. blah blah. But all he wrote was:

"This is"

And handed up his paper.

he ended up getting an HD (High Distinction, A+)
My music professor had told us the story about his time in college that is similar to this. When he was in college he said he had the final in philosophy and he got this question in final exam "why". He said everyone started writing pages full of things like what they learned in class about different philosophers and why they would do this and that and just bunch of bull shit. The professor was like when I got the question I was like wtf? Why what? why what? and he said I just simply wrote "because" and walked out of classroom. According to him he got the question right.

So.... I dont know how this relates to anything discussed in this thread but I thought I was post anyway. Perhaps if I get similar question next year because I'm going to be taking philosophy next semester, I'll keep this in mind and think not everything in philosophy has to be complicated.

She did not take a break, break like lunch break. She took a break and I meant to say recess, like timeout where she went through some paperwork.
You should have pulled out a hoagie and then asked her for some chips.

She was probably auditioning for a chip commercial, where they have unlikely people in formal situations pull out their product.

Judge- "I have good news and bad news."
Bachaveli- "Yes."
Judge- "The bad news is you're getting the death penalty."
Bachaveli- "What's the good news?"
Judge- "You can have these delicious chips as part of your last meal."

I do know what I want to talk about, I just don't have the right approach on it right now.

I wanted to talk about duality as a concept. But people didn't seem to understand where I was coming from on that front. I want to enforce the theory that contrasting concepts are one and the same, not two separate entities. I want to look at the main forms of duality, examine and investigate them, and find out problems associated with them. Possibly exposing the flaws aswell.

Paradox would be an interesting concept to explore. As most people dismiss the concept as illogical, absurd. Paradox is a form of duality.

I want to talk about the ambiguity of language and how it can be easily interpreted with different meanings, and especially, in different contexts. For the big majority of words have more than dual meanings, dual forms (nouns, adjectives, verbs etc). Inferences to subtle nuances through the closely interrelatedness of semantics.

I want to highlight Justification VS Condemnation as the most important concept of duality. It is the one concept that is predominant in our attitudes.

I have more to add on this subject, but like I said it's not easy for me to discuss or put across. Maybe it would suit me as a solo project rather than a debate or discussion. I just thought that some people might possibly have a perspective on certain things I've mentioned.
