WASHINGTON - The White House said Monday it was "a sober moment" as the U.S. death toll in Iraq climbed to 4,000. President Bush received a lengthy update on the war and aides said he was likely to embrace recommendations for a pause in troop withdrawals beyond those already scheduled.
I think that's crap...it has to be more than that.

4000 sounds about right to me. my only question is, what has the sacrifice of 4000 soldiers accomplished over there? not a hell of a lot if you ask me.

It just seems like it is. It's been 4 years. I remember seeing numbers in the 100,000's and only 4,000 of those were US soldiers? Just seems crazy.
the death toll of iraqi's is an estimate, it is more close to about 100,000. it includes civilians, iraqi police and army numbers as well as a small portion of sunni and shite fighters and probably some fighters from other countries.

interesting thing about the u.s. soldiers death number. i was talking to a national guardsman who is a sgt. he was telling me that majority of the soldiers that died, as far as the army goes, were national guard and reservists. if you think about it, that would make sense. those people only train one weekend a month and two weeks a year. unlike the full time enlisted soldiers that train everyday. that training as a "part time solider" just isn't going to stick with you like it does for the full time enlisted soldiers. my dad would tell me how when he was early in his career as an E-2 or E-3 he would always have to teach the basics to guys in the guard who would forget everything and they would be an E-5 or E-6.

although, it is in complete contradiction of what report that came out today and he could have just been refering to my state

I knew you would be the one responding with that lol

4000 is huge...even if it was 1 person, it would have been 1 person too much for the cause behind the cause of this war...
It's not like I'm saying I wish it was more. I wish it was none. BUT since they put the numbers out there I think the number is not right.

you seem to have misinterpreted my questions or something. i was simply wondering why keco didn't think the number is what it is.

A war is a large scale violent confilict. I think Iraq is a war.

I also think, in comparison to other modern conflicts, 4000 is not a great deals of casulties.
This war has one of the worst cost/benefit ratios in the history of American conflict, if not the worst.

Not just in death tolls (which are outrageous for what is or is not being accomplished), but also in the intense downward pressure it has put on our economy.

That's my point!!! It's not a lot by comparison which is why I think it's MORE!

Just because it doesn't benefit you doesn't mean it's not worthwhile.

yes 4000 is not much in comparison to other missions but imo
it's a lot considering America's cause and how pointless it is for those people to die for it.

yeah literally it's war so nevermind.

And it's worthwhile, why? Because the Iraqi people have been saved from a cruel dictator, are living happily now and looking forward to democracy and a free market economy?"

*vomits*

and masta, I know what you meant. You mean when the two sides actually fight, as in one country versus another and there's clear declared war from both sides. Or, guerrilla warfare, Bosnian style.
