Biggest Sporting Flops

I vote for Emile Heskey, Wigan (Ex-birmingham, liverpool, leicester player and former england striker)!

Although he had a good partnership with owen when at liverpool, they took it to the next level for england, which kinda worked. But he flopped hard. He cant shoot, hes not even that fast, loses the ball too easily, gives fouls away, cant control the ball. only thing he probably has is a little bit of strength.
Definately not worth £6.5m, £1m max.

List a few players, name the sport they play and why they flopped.

well if we're including people from all sports, then def. one of the biggest flops has to be Ryan Leaf, QB for the San Diego Chargers of the NFL. the kid was drafted second overall in 1998 (behind only Peyton Manning), and went on to have games with such stats as 4 completed passes and 5 interceptions. worst NFL draft pick ever.

Heskey is doing well at Wigan. He was just another english player over-rated by the english media.

Djibril Cisse and El Hadji Diouf at Liverpool

Okay I have a couple that I thought about...

I'll do each sport.

Football/Soccer

Ali Dia is definitly the biggest flop in all sports because he was a phoney.

For those who don't know who he is :

He slipped into English football under the watchful eye of Graeme Souness after Souness received a call from “George Weah” saying that Dia was his cousin. Souness, who apparently doesn’t believe in watching a player train, gave Dia a 1-month contract. After coming on as a sub in his first match, he was subbed after 20 minutes and kicked out of the club after two weeks. Widely considered to be the worst player to ever play in the Premier League.

Basketball

The 2002 US Male Basketball Team.

Kwame Brown and Michael Olowokandi.

No need to say anything.

American Football

Ryan Leaf. God damn.

Baseball

Well Michael Jordan, but also the 2002 All Star game was a major flop.

Tennis

Can't really say... The beauty with individual sports is that there is no flops, because you are not drafted. If you suck, you won't win anything, but I have to say that Malivai Washington was one of the less talented players out of those who were known. The guy worked his ass off though.

Denilson. He had it all, probably more renowned for step overs than Ronaldo was at that time, obviously there was more to his game, great dribbler, but was selfish and at 28 was released by a team in Saudi Arabia when a few years earlier he was the most expensive signing.

^^He was a money hungry fucker and was arguably the most over-rated player ever.Real Betis paid something like 25 million for him and all they got was relegation. I remember watching him at the 1998 World Cup and i thought he was shit. He was constantly trying these fancy flicks and they were a waste of time. He kept slowing own the play. I remember he got the ball in the final and did about 20 stepovers in front a the defender, going nowhere and then hit a shot. Couldnt he just have hit the ball straightaway i was asking.Actually he was the biggest flop ever.

Exactly what I was going to say.

He did that infront of a German defender in the left corner.

Aye, but it was near the end of the match, injury time I believe, wasting time maybe?

It's on one of the Botchamania videos, you should check them all out.

Surely Andriy Shevchenko has to be the biggest flop in world football, at least last season. British record transfer fee and he scored 4 goals in the Premiership all season.

No it was the World Cup final. They were losing 2 or 3 nil at the time. They were hardly in a position to waste time.
Oh you mean the 1998 final. I thought you meant the 2002 final. He did the same then. Doesn't take away the fact he was talented but never fulfilled it, like i stated his showbiz attitude and selfishness was one of his downfalls.

Another football player that comes into that is Recoba.

edit: why is there a thumbs down icon :/

^^Yea i meant 1998. Did he come on as a sub in the 2002 final. I cant remember.Recoba was very talented but injuries ruined him. He wasnt worth the wages he was earning at Inter though.

Yeah he came in the 90th minute and wasted time. When I saw that, I changed the channel.
