Dangerous Dog Breeds

I'm hearing this term alot in the news in recent times and personally it disgusts me. I strongly believe that a dog can not be defined as "dangerous" because of what breed it is. If the dog was a person you would be defining his race as a "dangerous" race.

Dogs are not dangerous or violent animals, yes they can be violent, just like every other sentient being (before any one tries to outsmart me, animals are sentient beings, go learn) can be violent, but when they are violent it is because that is what they have learnt by being abused by their owners.

I have been attacked by a dog, it bit my face and sliced through my lip leaving me scarred for life, but I never once blamed the dog. The dog was my dog that we got from a rescue centre, he was badly abused by his previous owner and he was never rehabilitated fully. I did something that upset him, that made him feel that he was in danger and did what he did to protect himself. By law it was required that he was put to sleep.

But this dog was a German shepherd, a breed of dog thats not even considered to be on the "Dangerous Dogs" list, so how can any one say that this dog was dangerous because of what breed it was?

Has any one else ever been attacked by a dog?

Do you own a dog thats considered dangerous?

Please discuss.

It's accurate to say some dog breeds are more dangerous than others because people bred dogs for specific purposes. They do differ in personalities. Rottweilers are clearly more prone to aggression than labradors. Labrador Retrievers were bred to retrieve killed animals without causing damage.
Of course the dog's individual personality and the way its raised play a great deal but there's still a difference between the different breeds.

Remember that dogs and wolves share a common ancestor. Just because some person with brain damage decided to take a wolf and create this:

doesn't mean they weren't once true predators. Millions of years of evolution is kind of hard to knock out, even for us.

By the way, why do you feel so strongly about this? From your posts I gathered you were pretty nonchalant to any negativity surrounding animals.

I love Dogs and Cats, I love the ability that these two species have that allow them to interact with human beings, sure horse owners love their horses, but the horse doesnt interact back with its owner the way dogs and cats do. To me, my dogs were my closest family members.

there are breeds that are more dangerous than others cause the are more aggressive .... but I agree, most of the time it's the fault of the owner not the fault of the dog if something happens. You gotta know your dog and keep strangers away if there is a reason for it.

I have a dog, I love my dog.

I HAAAATE cocker spaniels. I've been bitten by 2 different dogs at different times.

I know a girl who was attacked by her dalmation. She dropped a piece of food and bent down to pick it up and the dog attacked her. They raised the dog from a puppy and had it for 5 years.

All dogs have a different temperament. My weiner won't ever bite. He's had kids grab his tail and ears and he won't even growl...he just lays there and takes the abuse. I have a pitbull too and I'm positive she would never bite me. She's not aggresive at all. She would probably love to eat a squirrel if she ever caught one though.

It depends on the dog's breeding (Pitbulls for instance have been bred for fighting) and the dog's upbringing.

I know Dobermans and Rottweilers, dogs that have the reputation of being sketchy, that are even bigger cowards than Pomeranians. LOL.

You never know. See, you dunno what goes on inside the head of a dog, just like u dunno what goes on in the head of a women.... :D (or any human being) ..... so you never know. But I think that this is the key as well. You gotta thread a dog with respect, not like a ...doll .... and you'll be fine.

Lol no I would bet my life he wouldn't bite. I've tried to provoke him plenty of times before I let him go around kids. He's a lover...he'll just get up and walk away.

He does try to have sex with his siblings. He might be bi I d.k. I don't let him have sex.

I had a Pit Bull before. It pisses me off they have a bad name just because of humans. Humans have fucked that breed for life fighting them and making them mean. They are even banned in some states which is fucking pathetic.

I let kids poke mine with pointy sticks. It's to toughen him up. The world is a cruel place and he needs to be ready for it.

that is not treating your dog with respect!

Theyre banned in all of Australia now I believe. It sucks, beautiful dogs. I dont want to have to black market a dog, but I will. But it just pushes their price up to something crazy like $2000 for a pure bred.

Look its like this. I wouldnt pull my gun out in front of kids. I wouldnt leave them alone in a room with a loaded gun. I wouldnt give kids the keys to my motorbike or car. Same with a dog, I wont leave kids in a room with ANY dog unsupervised. Its just about being responsible.
