Technology Pro Evolution 2008 Opinions

I know this game has been out for a while now but i only got my copy last week. I bought the XBox 360 version. I bought every other release of Pro Evolution for the PC.I always loved this game.Even though they don't have the licenses to use all the real player and team names, the excellent gameplay always more than made up for this shortcoming. It was almost like watching real football. Another short coming the Pro Evolution series had was that the graphics weren't anything special. They were good but not as good as FIFA.
So due to the excellent gameplay and the addictiveness of the Pro Evolution games, these things didnt really matter. That is until now. With the latest release(Pro Evolution 2008) they have ruined this great game. In terms of gameplay, they have changed everything. Its not as realistic as the other games. The ball moves too fast and shooting doesn't look right.
Why did they need to change anything? If it ain't broke don't fix it. They could have just concentrated on improving graphics, sounds etc without making huge changes to how the game is played.
Now, the next problem which Pro Evolution fans have always overlooked is the graphics. Some of the text in the menus is blurred. Its hard to read them. Maybe this just my TV, im not sure. I have also come across situations where the ball goes through the goalkeepers body.

Congratulations Konami, you have succeeded in ruining a great game.

I know a few people play this game here. What do you think of it and what is it like on other platforms like the PC and PS3?

I haven't tried it yet, it was going to be the next footy game I was going to buy, looks like I'll live with FIFA 08 now.

I have it on the 360, and though I'm not as negative as you I do have a few gripes;

1. The menus. Maybe it's me, maybe Konami think everyone's playing this on 42" LCDs, but some of the text and the icons are hard to read.
2. Where's the random selection match?! Added so much replay value to the last version (the PS2 version of it, anyway).
3. I still can't fucking tackle properly.

The Random Selection match is on the Ps2. and you can now select each individual player.

I actually like the game.

Yea i find the text and icons hard to read as well.

This game reminds me of FIFA 2003, which was a good game but not in comparison to the last few Pro Evolution's.

I was playing it again today and it just annoys me how unrealistic they have made it. Its impossible to score from long range. The camera angles are shit.All in all it is by far the worst Pro Evolution game ever released.

Looks like it received a lot of negative reviews as well. Perhaps its time to go back to FIFA. What is that like David?

I think it's better than the last version. And I've scored some crackers from long range, with Rooney, Scholesy, Anderson, Ronaldo, Nani and even Owen Hargreaves.

I dont know about PE2008. I had 2006 on Xbox and loved it.

But Ive played Fifa 2008 on 360 and it is fantastic, it really is a step above their previous offerings on the Xbox.

I agree with Bobby Sands they fucked it up this time, worst Pro Evo game I've played in years

Pro 6 way better, they could have just tweaked Pro 6 a little and passed it off as 2008 and it would have been miles better.

Looks very complicated, but if it's easy to do then I might have to cop a version of that too. Especially if it has random selection.

I take back my last post.... After downloading the second patch today for PS3, the game has improved ALOT, gameplay is much better now.

What has the patch fixed? There was an Xbox update, but I don't know what it did.

The lag on Xbox Live is just ridiculous.

There's been two patches so far for the PS3 version

Yeah before the patches it was pretty crap to play online, it didn't lag but had weird jerking.

Like you would get the ball off a player and it would jerk and the opposite player would still have it, weird shit.

Also a few bugs like hitting the ball at the keeper sometimes and he'd save it or it looked like it was going and it would end up as corner.

There are a few minor glitches still but it's definitely improved alot, it's alot more like Pro 6 now, they are going to release a third patch which should fix the few minor glitches/bugs that are left. Don't know the deal with the 360 version

Yeah, lag was the wrong word, but I get that a lot on Live. Some games just became unplayable.

This game has grown on me a bit. Its not as bad but it is still flawed and not as good as the earlier releases.
