Technology Still worth getting a PSP? Or DS?

My girlfriend has a DS and I was considering getting one myself so we can play wifi, but thats not really the point of this thread.

I was considering getting her a PSP for her birthday, because Ive always assumed it was better than the DS. Is it? She loves her DS, so I may either get her some games for her DS, or get her a PSP.

So my question is, is the PSP worth getting if she has a DS? She's not a hardcore gamer. Is the PSP better? Is it even worth getting a PSP or is there something better coming out soon?

PSP is technically better but DS is more "cute" so I think your girlfriend will like it more anyway. DS is rather for kids and girls imo. PSP games are more mature (GTA, Tekken etc.)

Not sure if it's still worth buying a psp.
On the other hand I think there's no info when any next generation portable console is coming out.

If you go with the psp. Make sure you get the new slimline model that just came out. It's slimmer and lighter than the original PSP and you can also connect it to your tv so you can watch your movies or play your games on your tv.

Just look at it this way, the PSP is the pocket PS2, the DS is a pocket Wii.
To be more accurate I'd say psp is a pocket ps2 but weaker, ds is a portable n64 but a bit better with extra functionality and few extras here and there (most are useless imo)

In short, basic differences are that psp has one better screen - ds two but worse (but one includes touchepad), psp looks more mature, ds has n64-like games, psp ps2-like games.
I know most PSPs play copied games ;) You just download, transfer to memory card and play. Not sure about DS.

If I had to choose I'd get a PSP BUT if I had to make a decision - to buy or not to buy.. I wouldn't
I'd wait for something new

PSP doesnt play copied games, not unless you downgrade it to 1.5FW and then install one of Dark-Alex's Custom firmwares, which a) not easy for those that are unfamiliar with hacking consoles b) will completely fuck up your PSP beyond repair if you do it wrong. The DS is easier to play copied games on, you need to buy blank GBA cartridges and a cartridge writer, then all you do is download the rom to the cart. You can buy packs with all the necessary hardware. Also the DS has some better than PS2 quality games.

there are unofficial firmwares for psp. Most psps on the net (internet shops, auctions) has it. They're really popular down here, my friends who own PSPs trade copied games on memory cards and easily play them. Also it unlocks few other things and makes wifi work easier.

to be honest I know only one person who has ds (nobody buys nintendo products here - except fanboys oc) and maybe that's why I prefer PSP.
But like I said I wouldn't buy it

You can always just unbrick the PSP. Homebrew hackers have released Pandora's Battery. Which is basically the same shit that Sony uses to unbrick PSP's once a person fucks it up and sends it in to them. So you dont have to worry about fucking up your PSP no more. Check out www.psp-hacks.com for everything relating to hacking your PSP.

The only "unofficial" firmwares are the ones created by Dark-Alex (Also known as DAX). Theses PSP you refer to will be running this. My point is, you won't pick up on of these hacked consoles from any reputable retailer, from which most people in the world purchased their PSPs. Also you are pretty fucked if you have a firmware that is over version 3.11, I have heard of people being able to downgrade console running 3.40 but have not yet seen it done.

if your girl loves her ds, why do you want to buy her a psp? she doesn't need 2 portable gaming systems. you should buy her games instead of getting her a psp.

also i'm disappointed at the new psp they released. honestly, apart being slimmer and connect on the tv, it's nothing better.

Yes I've heard of Pandora's Battery, but if you are able to fuck it up in the first place, its unlikely you're gonna know what to do to unfuck it.

yeah that's what I've been referring to. Here on internet auction sites most psps are with 3.52 or 3.60 soft version.
I think they play copied games :)

PSP owns the DS. PSP is the best hand held gaming system out there. The graphics own, better games, movie/mp3 player, web browser. The newer slim ones actually have faster loading time.

PSP is far better, once you have the custom FW running it's the shit

Emulators/isos whatever

The Russian hackers are running the PSP hacking now, their new firmware is dope.
