I just saw on the news that Apple is going to announce a new Ipod on Thursday? Apparently its big enough news to make mainstream media so I am assuming it's something new and not just a memory upgrade or size reduction?

Anyone know the deal?

From what Ive heard, it's a touchscreen NANO.. something small enough to not hurt the iPhone's business.

The problem is memory. Flash is the way to go but 80GB or 100GB of Flash memory is still way too expensive.

another one

"However, a reliable industry insider has told vnunet.com that the announcement will include plans to bring digital radio to the iPod along with an option to buy music using the device.

The source said that the new iPods will be able to receive digital radio, and will include a 'buy-now' function to allow the user to download and buy tracks as they are being played.

This facility will be limited to tracks sold from the iTunes store, but Apple hopes to dramatically increase the number of tracks available via the service. It is not known whether the same functions will be included in the iPhone.

It's $400? I couldn't even fit 1/5 of my music on it, let alone putting video and movies on it. It's like a Mercedes with a go cart engine, useless. Only good thing to come out of all of this is the 160 gig iPod.

When I read 16GB, I was like "come again?". But Apple is right for thinking that there are two ways to offer iPods - one is for people who don't want to sync, and want to carry their entire library in their pockets. The second is people who are fine or prefer switching the content every time it needs a recharge. (22 hours of music is roughly 3GB)

The first iPod was introduced in October of 2001. In it was a 5GB hard drive that held 1000 songs. And it changed the music industry. In those days, I was spitting on iPods for their lack of beauty.

To me, a portable device like this one is a great way to share creativity or things of interest with other people. And that means content that changes from day to day.

Above all, it's a freaking touchscreen iPod with coverflow! iPod Touch is a thing of beauty.

I canceled my online order because I called the retail store this morning and found out that they have "just a few" in stock (i bet corporate tells them to say that) so I went over to Best Buy and purchased a 16GB.

It's spectacular.

Don't be so jealous. This is the start of mainstream pocket PC.

I just learned that the city of Minneapolis is going WiFi within 2 years. It will slowly but surly end the mobile phone business.

I'm not jealous, I just don't get it. Why would somebody get that and then have to have a phone too? That's too much in one pair of pants.

That's why Apple offers the iPhone - an iPod with a phone. Personally, I don't need a crappy AT&T plan and I feel that the phone is the weakest part of the iPhone, so I'm sticking with my t-mobile Samsung. The iPod Touch is going to replace my laptop for the times when I want to carry my media, etc. Besides, the iPhone and the Touch combined is thinner than my wallet (I don't carry much cash on me).

The apps on the Touch is still limited but the platform is smooth and things like VoIP, IM clients and hacks will be matter of time. The possibility is endless.

Sidekick is made by Sharp, and sold by T-Mobile.
Touch is made by Apple, sold by Apple and supported by Apple.

and the obvious like design, usability and software.
