Yeah, they did. I was watching Lavar on First Take the other day and the guy is so delusional about NOLA and the NBA; he thinks the Lakers did exactly what he wanted them to do lmao. As long as Lonzo stays the fuck away from his dad, I think he'll be just fine.
Side note, but has BBB folded yet? Or have they at least started showing up at Marshalls and TJ Maxxs nationwide? I think they wanted like $50 or $70 for a pair of BBB slides. Shirts were obnoxiously expensive too. I can't imagine that company making any money. Maybe people in LA bought it at first when Lonzo got drafted to show support?
And I followed the NBA more this year than I ever have before. At least since the Rose era in Chicago. This league is the most drama filled league ever, but I gotta say it's entertaining to watch the off-court antics. Kyrie's BS. The Paul-Harden "feud". It also baffles me that the NBA is the only league I see where analysts predict where players are going years in advance. Like ownership/teams know a player wants to play elsewhere and while that player is still playing and has another year or two on contract, teams brazen start "clearing cap space" to let certain players go to make room for a big contract for a superstar. Like LeBron to LA. I was hearing rumors of it back in 2016; he made the move two years later, but that's all the media was about.
When KD was with OKC and still had another season or two left with them (2014? 15?) there were rumors of him going to Washington when his contract was up, to be closer to home. Listening to hot takes now about the NBA, it seems teams were making moves the last season or two by signing players to big money but short term contracts just to skate by for a season just to clear room for a superstar now. Like the Knicks with KD (supposedly). Or teams interested in Kyrie. Toronto hadn't even won yet and people were speculating about Kawhi making the most sense going to the Clippers and making them instant-contenders. Possibly "favorites."
What other sport does this? Baseball had like one or two in recent memory, in Harper and Machado. I was hearing about them making moves in Spring of 2017. That's it, though. NFL? Never. Teams sends you somewhere and you go. In the NBA, it seems a lot more "loose" and "free" for players to move around, but that's not an issue for me at all. It's just how far in advance the rumors start and prospective teams start getting mentioned. Fans, players, owners, and analysts alike all seem to be looking at the same piece of paper that has an athletes 1,2, 5 year plan and all parties reading it just accept it. Like it's scripted and players just need to "check things off" a checklist and move on.
