Belgium played REALLY well during this World cup, and the 3rd spot was very much deserved. They were pleasant to watch. Their attack in 80' was quite beautiful - great team play.

That said, England doesn't seem to be doing great these days. At least their current team sucks. I'm probably biased by their history, as they used to be my second favorite team to watch back in their glory years, but I expected much more. Instead, it feels like they don't have any individually great players, while their team play feels very forced too. Like there's some ungrounded pride in their play style, despite not having any of the players that earned them that good rep anymore.

The mission to let Harry Kane shoot all penalties and at any decent opportunities at a goal to at least get the Golden boot was also a very low way to get any recognition, considering he clearly wasn't a great player and wasted more opportunities than any other player. He received the highest number of passes that ended without a goal out of any forward during this WC, and Tippier has the distinction of having the highest amount of "chances created" and "total crosses" during this WC purely by passing to Kane, at 48 chances. It just exposes the team to further critique if he gets it awarded based purely on the number of easy goals that he had scored, literally half of them being penalties, with only 3 goals being scored from all the chances that he had. He's clearly not up there with the top players, and on top of that his performance during this WC was rather poor, so that would be an extremely undeserved recognition to a poorly performing player that the whole team relied on and facilitated, yet he consistently failed to deliver any results. It feels like England tried to showcase that they have a world class player too, but they really don't. They need to have one in the future to become competitive again for sure, but even more than that they need a better all-around team.

Also why do people call the French "frogs" as a derogatory term?
Because they eat frogs? In Polish, they are called "Frog-eaters" - it's a fairly common term for the French people. Then again, East-Asians are called the "Yellows" and nobody would think it's really too offensive, more like "tongue-in-cheek", so I guess my people aren't too touchy about such things.

To be fair the game today was really intense. The French didn't play a pretty game, but they were effective. Much respect to Croatia though for getting to the finals and scoring twice.

I see. The French also eat horses too, I heard.

lol that's funny though. That's like calling East Asians "dogs" because they eat those. And Croatians "shit" because that's what they ate in the WC lol
