lol @ "for lames"

But,
I would rather it take an hour to d/l a movie from a torrent than pay $XX per month to get it in 5 mins

Private torrent trackers are plenty fast. I get 2MB/sec download on some of them, at that speed you'll get an average TV show in a couple of minutes.

You are still dependent on your peers though. And you are still uploading data, which is where the copyright issue comes into play... It's not beyond the realms of possibilities for someone from RIAA or the like, to be on the private tracker.

Why pay for newgroups when I can get the stuff easily and for free?
Many, many reasons.

Is £7 per month a lot for SSH encryption? For maxing out your download speed? For not having to rely on peers? For never having to upload?

Whatever your speed on torrents, it's quicker on Newsgroups.... And consistent. Not dependent on others.

Has anyone here actually tried Newsgroups who is pro torrent? I'd imagine not.

I don't mind uploading stuff. In fact I enjoy it. Several times I have added rare music that I own, to torrent sites so that others may enjoy them. Other times I seed stuff for longer so more people can get it. Between direct downloads from private forums about things I like, blogs, and torrents, I find everything I need and then some.

And yes, I have tried Newsgroups in the past. I prefer torrents from private trackers.

Then you have brain damage. Private trackers are pants. If they ever get understanding of copyright infringement on the internet laws, torrents are first in line. Plus... all the other benefits I have listed several times.

Paying is gay and for lames
I see what you did there. Bottom line - You guys are cheap?

Anyways... I am trying to educate you guys to the finer ways of bootleg material. Your loss. Next you'll all be trying to tell me Kazaa and limewire are the way forward.

there are things on private trackers that you can't find on newsgroups. Most albums leak first on private music trackers and most pro audio plugins come out first on the pro audio private trackers.

I can agree with this point. I just don't want those torrents and torrent software on my PC.

They're not the only way I get stuff, just my main source. I understand how you can love newsgroups, it's just they're not what I need.

I have used UseNet. Someone was nice enough to let me use it for a week on their account. It downloaded at the same speed torrents did in my apartment. 200 Kb/s at the most. At home, on our $15 a month DSL, it's a tad less than that. I live with it. Last time I had amazingly fast internet was over a year ago, when my games of COD didn't lag and I could do 300 KB/S+. Ah, those were the days. I feel like I'm back on dial-up now.
