You notice the difference when you download movie at 3Megabytes a second.
Yeah, that's why I said that you only see the difference when you download huge files :)
Obviously I enjoy the comfort of being able to download something with 3MB/s speed. However I barely download huge files these days.

Are you renting the cable modem?

I just bought my own (yesterday), it will save you the $7/month and you will have a new unit with WAY less tech issues.. and probably faster speeds?
Nah, I used to rent but after doing some research I realized the modem I was renting was old and slow (as was the router). I bought new ones and upgraded a little bit after cancelling my cable and upgrading my internet speeds. But, those are still the speeds I get as far as I know. I'll be honest.. I haven't done a proper speed test since initially switching them out so there may be some fluctuation in there that i'm not aware of.

BUT.. as I've taken to dowloading movies off the interwebz now.. upgrading my internet package was the best thing I've ever done. It used to take about 2-3 hours to download an episode of a sitcom that had just aired and been uploaded... now i'm downloading it in about 20 mins or so. It's amazing!!!

Seriously?! With only 30 down?! That's amazing!!!! Maybe the difference is about the websites being used? Depending on how "fresh" the upload is.. I may get a much shorter time than 20 mins.. but I've never had 2-3 mins!!!

Movies take like 5-6 minutes. Though I don't download Blu-ray rips, just divx/mkv's around the 800MB-1GB mark. At 3 Megabytes a second, an 800 Megabyte file takes 4 minutes 27 seconds to download.

Yeah, those speeds are great! Hmm.. i'm going to conduct a test. Maybe i've not been paying enough attention to how long it actually takes as well as if my speeds are consistently at the levels they're supposed to be. I don't download that much, but I'd love the faster time when I do! Though, i'm not talking about downloading from from a direct file.. but from a site where other ppl are "seeding" the file... which definitely has an effect on the download time. IDK if it's to do with their upload speed or not? But I know if enough ppl aren't seeding said file.. it takes FOREVER to complete a download. Either way, i'm going to check and report back. lol

I dont fuck with torrents. Peer 2 Peer sharing in general is a waste of time in my opinion. You can only download as fast as the person uploads, and most people don't have a good upload speed, some times the ISP just offers a sucky service, or its capped to before Peer 2 Peer sharing, so unless you get alot of quality seeds, which is rare unless you are subscribe to kinda private service, its gonna be slow.

I download all my stuff from sites like Megaupload, Rapidshare, Filesonic and so forth. I'm a member at Warez-Bb and you can get pretty much any thing there.

Newsgroups are the only way to download.

SSH encryption. Maxing out your connection. Never had a virus, never downloaded a misnamed file.

It didn't take that long, less than 10 minutes for a new episode... I got True Blood in 8 minutes.

I use IP Torrentz or something like that, it's a private site. Everything uploaded is verified, nothing is misnamed, etc. So far i've not had any trouble with it except for the uploading going slow if it's not enough people seeding it.

Yeah private torrents aren't too bad because they dont have hundreds of people leeching from them at once. I know with many private torrents though you have to upload to be able to download so you don't just leech.

I have to say I only leech. Upload contributes to bandwidth usage, so if you're sharing Blu-Ray rips, thats alot of traffic both ways. I kinda have a data cap of 100GB, but i've never seen any change in my service, nor extra charges for exceeding it, which I must do, but I don't want to add unnecessary traffic.

Not only that, you're more likely to get fucked by the law for distributing than you are for downloading.

You don't have to upload here, BUT you do have to constantly seed what you've downloaded.. kind of the same thing. It's not too bad and I don't have any bandwidth caps luckily. But I've not really noticed a change in my internet speed for the most part. This site has something where they hide the IP addresses of users. Slightly safer.

I downloaded all 6 seasons of Fresh Prince on torrents yesterday, took less than a day. Was about 22GB. I wasn't getting anywhere near my max download speeds either. Win.

For individual episodes of things I just direct downloads like Gotti said, Filesonic, Hotfile, Megaupload, etc
