As I was getting to know Google TV better on their official page, something dawned on me. Usually when I go watch TV, and that's rare because I only have the basic channels, I do it to get away from my laptop and not check my Facebook or any other sites that I frequent. It's a way of "getting away". I don't want to be watching TV and have the Facebook news feed stacked away somewhere at the same time.
Yeah, I wouldn't want to be on Facebook and web ALL the time. My time for the net is when I'm at home or university and I have nothing more important to do. I only need to be able to check basic Google search or maps/locations on my phone. The idea of people spending more and more time on social websites kind of saddens me and facebook integration with everything is annoying. Not only because how it might affect me but also people around me. I think that people (including me) spend too much time on stupid activities on the net in the first place.

I get the feeling that nowadays I see these commercials where they flaunt "Now you can stay connected with your friends all the time!" or some shit like that and I'm thinking, "I don't want to do that?". There's this friend who'd ask me to go hang out and if I don't answer in like 15 minutes, he sends a follow-up question mark. Is it OK for me to shower without my phone? Is it OK to go take a shit without my phone? What is it with people these days thinking that they have the right to get a response from you a second after their send it?

Everyone wants their stuff done quickly. Count on this ruining TV for almost everyone. When watching a movie, a pop up on your screen about activity on your Wall or Status wil ruin it all. Even I'm not that lazy of a fuck that I don't want to get my laptop or phone and browse the web on that while watching TV.

It doesn't have "Popups", dude. This isn't iOS. Does Android have popups? No.

You clearly have no idea what Google TV even is, so you have two options:

A) Fuck off out of the thread.
B) Go and do some reading, then come back with a better response.

I don't think I need apps on my TV. Although I am open.

What google need to bring is software that runs just like XBMC. They need to be able to bring all the catchup sites like iplayer etc... They need to support netflicks, lovefilm etc. They need to be easily setup for streaming from other locations - PC, Nas, Server... etc... If they bring that, and extra with support for ALL codecs... I am in.

Apart from my spelling mistake... No... Was it a dig at google tv?

Without support for all of it.... Google TV isn't something I'd pay extra for... If it comes with my TV, then I'll play with it. But probably still have XBMC, Boxee or PCH underneath.

Well, I went to pre-order Black Ops at Best Buy today and got to mess around with Google TV. I like it a lot, although I did just mess with with the TV and the browser. I thought about it and I guess I would get it at some point, if I could. It is rather expensive. I saw the Logitech system but played with the Sony one, with the little remote with the keyboard on it. I didn't really like it but I think the keyboard that comes with the Logitech system is better and cheaper.

I used Chrome, didn't search for anything because the sales guy came up and started talking. But PIP in the corner while you're searching is pretty neat. I go to pick up the game on Tuesday morning so maybe I'll give the other apps a shot. I don't know what else was on the menu, Chrome just caught my eye first as being the browser so I did that. What else is on that menu? Just the Facebook, Twitter stuff? Music and other media options?

If Android affects TV the way it affects phones, I expect a cheap, low-end system to be released for something like $100 or less and I may settle for that.

But overall, with the initial experience with it, I changed my mind. I think Google TV is alright after all.

everyone and their mother is pre-ordering black ops and it's annoying the fuck out of me for some ridiculous reason. maybe because I don't want the stupid game but it's the only way to bond with my sister's fiance because he has modern warfare 1 and I have 2 and we can't play online and it'd be lame of me to have him get mf 2 instead of black ops but I don't want to dish 66 bucks on this shit I barely played mf 2 after I beat the missions or whatever.

What they showed at the initial demonstration at Google I/O was a fully connected Android world across systems. So, the new web-based Market that you view on your PC has a dropdown menu that allows you to select different Android based devices and push things to that device. So you would push certain apps to your Google TV and others to your phone, if you have one of those cars that are running Android, you could push specific apps and content to your car.

Google Music being the same deal - wireless over the air push of your music library and newly purchased tracks to any number of Android devices you own.

For me, that's why it's the future. Imagine you're on your computer looking at YouTube because someone's emailed you a link to a great video. You could push that video straight to your Google TV and go sit down and watch it, if it's a long video that you don't want to stay at your computer to watch. This is how the new movie rentals thing that YouTube is doing is going to work, because obviously people don't want to watch movies on their computer.

When you add Android Market to it (which is coming early next year to Google TV I believe), and a decent amount of third party apps either designed for Google TV (clearly there'll be a specific GTV section in the Android Market) , as well as other apps not necessarily designed for Google TV but compatible with it - the skys the limit.

Apple simply can't do this with Apple TV. They don't have the synergy to connect everything simply using the Internet the way Google do.

Plus, you have to actually BUY Apple TV, whereas Google TV will be built in to TV's by all different manufacturers. Half my family already own Sony Bravia TV's....chances are when they next buy a new one, it'll be one that already comes with Google TV without them even knowing it. I think this time next year, or even 18 months from now, there'll be a lot of homes with Google TV. A good comparison would be the growth of Android itself from the release of the first device, the G1, and then the 2 years that have followed that. I think Google TV will follow a similar path.

Well, I enjoy the online MP. I don't think I even beat the campaign on it. My friends are all online.

Well, my parents bought a behemoth a year or two ago, so I doubt they'll get another TV. Honestly, the box is fine. You can pick it up and move it to another TV if need be, instead of buying a TV just because it has GTV integrated.

My parents have Dish Network. I thought I remembered reading something about special deals for GTV for Dish subscribers. Might have to go unearth that article.

The Xbox 360 just got an update a few days ago, and now ESPN is integrated into the Dashboard as well. I can watch games on my Xbox on my TV in my room (which does not have cable) instead of out in the living room. Now if only M$ put a browser on it.

How is Google TV different from the PS3's stuff, though? That has media capabilities, a browser, etc. Just the apps aspect?

...I can't stop thinking about Google TV. And wishing it was just a $50 accessory I could buy right now (have $70+ in gift cards from Bes Buy) and get that shit.

Gonna suggest it to my parents when I go back home in a few weeks.

i see a huge problem with this. if i get google tv and my brother gets an android phone, there will be endless fighting over what channel to watch.

i didnt realise it was that nice. i just took the tour and i really want this - the navigation looks really smooth.

im amazed that you can search for programs by voice from your phone, i just thought there would be buttons like a remote control and that's all it would be.

im also impressed with the ability to push music to and from your tv. but that would be streaming wouldnt it?
