It's out. I went down to my local Best Buy yesterday and they were selling the new Sony TV's and Blu-Ray players that both have Google TV built in, and apparently the Logitech box is now available too. I am going to go down there again later and see if they have a live demo yet, apparently some Best Buy stores have live demos that look like this:

Here's some reading for you:

With Google TV, I May Never Leave The Sofa Again)

I want to leave the sofa. LOL @ this:

"The first problem is how Google TV handles Flash. Some pages that render partially or completely in Flash don’t display properly and in one extreme case, a page I was trying to browse that renders fully in Flash crashed the unit completely."

I had to, you know I did.

I'll check it out though, there's a Best Buy 5 min from me and usually up on shit like this.

Hasn't sold me, yet.

My Acer Revo with XBMX >>>>>> Google TV.

Also... I don't need apps on my telly. I just want to be able to stream from my NAS, and to be able to handle all the formats my files are in. I want it to interface with IMDB too. And look pretty. I also want to be able to view catchup sites such as iplayer.... That's all I require really. But it needs to be done well. And XBMC do it best.

But you could still get those networks on a PC set up with XBMC. :)

See what I mean. There are better options out there. It's just fewer people know about them. People will instantly believe the best offerings will come from the likes of Google or Apple. Because of what else their brand creates.

I have my PC, laptop and Xbox hooked to my TV. I wouldn't need it but I see it being cool for people who have neither of them.

People are already working on rooting Google TV, LOL.

Anyway, Smacky you obviously didn't read it properly. First of all:

CBS (part of CBS Corp) and NBC (owned by GE) have joined Hulu in blocking Google TV from accessing the available television episodes on their websites.
It's only the media on their sites that is blocked. I don't remember the last time I went on CBS or NBC's websites. They can't block their own channels because Google TV interfaces with your existing cable. It's not a cable box.

Secondly - there's an option in Chrome browser on Google TV to change your user agent string. For those of you who might not know what this means, your user agent string is what tells websites what browser you're using. So, you just go into the options, change it from the default and voila! Everything works again.

I'm taking the dive with my 360. I got the free time to read up on it and install it. Fuck this Apple/Google TV coonshit.

I can't wait to get one of these and be running specially designed Android apps on my TV. That shit is for the WIN - ESPECIALLY with Google Music around the corner and full integration.

Just had some hands on time, about 3 minutes or so, with the Sony Google TV and keyboard controller at Best Buy. It's pretty fucking epic and runs really smooth.

So for XBMC, do I need to have movies and tv shows on my laptop in order to watch them on the Xbox/TV? The reason I ask is because I'm looking at a video where this guy has a ton of movies and the IMDB ratings and synopsis are given for each movie he goes through.

Is it similar to an OS, in that you can download apps and such that let you stream movies and tv?

I have a Server that is running constantly. On it is all my media. Under my TV I have a standalone media player. Currently, a Popcorn Hour. Soon to be an Acer Revo running XBMC. My Media Player is networked to my server. My server does a lot of other things too. So it is running 24/7. I also have things such as Sonos and Squeezebox that are connected into my network.

That video you have seen of XBMC shows the positives. But the media will need to be stored somewhere. So you can connect an External HD to your 360. Or you can stream from your PC (laptop) or a centralised server.

Yeah, I figured the last part, leaving my laptop on in my room and having the Xbox in the living room. So there's no app or something that lets me browse the internet for things to stream?

Possibly. I'm not up and running with XBMC. But I do know when I attempted to use my 360... I hated it.

Oh, I got the impression you liked it earlier. Oh well, yeah, it is pretty shitty. I was hoping it was like Google or Apple TV where there were apps that let you do shit.

I like XBMC. I just didn't like when I was using the 360. I prefer an Acer Revo or similar. So that I can use it for other things. Like browsing through my TV. Catching up on channels with their online streaming services... etc.

Currently... XBMC gives me the easiest and nicest experience at playing my media from my server to my TV. I really like the interaction with IMDB. And with the right skin it looks very good. I haveb't played with it much yet, though.

Oooh.... i think i want this.

My computer is constantly hooked up to my TV. I need to head to Best Buy and try it out.

This is good timing too because I was just thinking of getting rid of one of my TV's for something better. My Samsung LED actually doesn't have the best color. IDK if i'd want a Sony TV though. Ah well, maybe i'll try to head to Best Buy today.

As I was getting to know Google TV better on their official page, something dawned on me. Usually when I go watch TV, and that's rare because I only have the basic channels, I do it to get away from my laptop and not check my Facebook or any other sites that I frequent. It's a way of "getting away". I don't want to be watching TV and have the Facebook news feed stacked away somewhere at the same time.
