Should we ban the burka?

ban the burka - Google Search

A lot of countries are banning the Burka. And I have even heard Iman's asking for a ban. Apparently it isn't part of the muslim religion, and isn't mentioned in the Qu'ran. It is an old tribal ritual that has been adopted by certain countries, and the Muslim religion.

I personally, don't like it. But think it would be very un-British to ban it. If there is a security issue, it should be removed, but to blanket ban it, would be wrong.

I find it interesting that they banned it in Syria, even though they are a Muslim country. They said it encourages extremism.

I feel there are valid reasons to ban it, but the act of banning it is a little extreme in itself.

It shouldn't be allowed in places where security is an issue and where you wouldn't normally be permitted to cover your face, but in general I have no problem with it.

I agree with Cooper, if it's for security purposes then it should be removed for that but whatever happened to the notion of "free country"? Do we ban Nun's habit's? I personally think it's ridiculous to try and tell people what they can't wear, if it's not putting anyone else at risk it's an individual decision.

No, i dont think it'll help to outright ban it.

Different question when it comes to public offices etc.

I think it should be banned. There have been certain discussions about it here in Quebec, Canada. But at the same time who are we to tell someone how to dress?

I just hate not being able to see the person's face. Who knows what facial expression they have at that moment? It's an issue for elections, security, etc.

If a woman in a burka robs a bank and leaves. How are the police forces supposed to identify that person and pursue that person? There's no way.

I also think it's a way of oppressing women which doesn't please me but hell if that woman chooses to wear it, it's her problem. In life we all make decisions. You're in Canada, no one will throw rocks at you if you don't wear your burka. And if your husband does, he'll get arrested because we don't tolerate that kind of behavior.

^Why not just make a law where if you want to board a plane, you must show your face?

You get my drift.

This is why we should ban the burka:

White people are scared to say anything.

Also, it really isn't putting safety at risk. Everyone is in a restricted zone and has been through security search. But... I agree. A burka should be removed, no questions ask, when it relates to security. Would I get through in a hoody if my religion asked for it.... Nope.

You would if your religion was listed as Jedi. It happened. In the UK too.

Just shows how bullshit political correctness has become.

But I agree with you.

It is policy for everyone to identify themselves. But some employees don't insist because they don't wanna be deemed as racist and whatnot.

Or if not we have to accommodate the women to a small room so no men can see their uncovered face. A bit ridiculous considering the burka is not something that's obliged by Islam, it's a personal choice.

If and when we ban the burka, I would think it unwise if we did not also banish the banana-hammock swimming suit for good and forever.
