Why does the USA have a problem with a terminally ill terrorist being released early? Isn't this the same USA that funded Irish Terrorism not so long ago?

Also, what is Obama's issue with BP? Wasn't it an American company managing the drilling. Some would think he is trying to drive the share price down so American oil companies can takeover.

Obama is the new Bush. A puppet.

Discuss... :)

I don't think the US government ever actively funded Sinn Fein and the IRA, though. A lot of Irish-Americans did, of course, but on their own accord.

And as far as I know it was BP that was doing the drilling. They rented the platform but drilled themselves.

I heard BP had leased it and were employing an American contractor to drill and excavate (?) the oil. The company - Halliburton.

The main thought that comes to me is this though - I thought oil was in short supply. How many cars could we have run with what leaked.... And who was demanding all this oil anyway... ;)

So all terminally ill terrorists should be released early to go home and get a hero's welcome? If Saddam Hussein or bin Laden was terminally ill, they should be released? They said this fool had a few months to live and almost a year later he's still alive. Why didn't they give him a million dollars too?

I thought the idea of life in prison was you die in prison. His release was just another payment on Kaddafi's terrorist extortion demand for securing release of his raped and tortured EU nurse hostages.

Al Qaeda: Only Terminally Ill Terrorists Need Apply

The word on the street is that terrorist organisations are now only recruiting terminally ill terrorists to carry out their dirty deeds.

"Once our operators carry out their heroic deeds like blowing up passenger planes full of Americans we know they will be treated leniently especially if they are caught by the British authorities. We know that they will simply be let off to come home and receive a hero's welcome. We must be careful not to be caught by the Americans however, because we have heard that they do not take kindly to terrorists, but Scotland and England no problem," an Al Qaeda commander revealed to Al Jazeera news service.

Thanks to the British government's complacent and lenient nature with regards to terrorists worldwide, they now have a free Get Out of Jail card.

No. I agree that he shouldn't be released. Although in the UK, Life imprisonment, doesn't actually mean Life. I think we can agree that big business was behind it. But isn't America the world leader at putting big business before civil liberties? Gordon Brown and the Labour party were the worst thing to happen to the UK. Hopefully now we will have the Conservatives doing things right, and if they get a bit hostile, then the Libs will straighten them a little. But I am sure the Lib Dems supported the release.

What I am saying is it's hypocritical. Until 2001, Terrorism was another country's problem. But now it has happened to America we are all in it together. America funded the IRA for years, whether it was through private donations, or from big business. I know for a fact, that H J Heinz was donating over 100K per month. If it wasn't for the fact their Ketchup rules, I would have boycotted it.
