Lent

*Thread may seem long, but what else are you going to read on this forum?*

Anyway, if some of you noticed, i've been gone or my posting fell off....it's because i have decided to give up internet for lent.

I was doing good until Sigh decided to say he'd ban me if I didn't post on SH.

Ultimately, I kept ya'll up to date with some cool shit here and there but been lagging recently.

Anyway,

I'm not really religious, though I have my beliefs....this is my first, and maybe last time doing this.

I gave up internet up for lent b/c my step dad was told by his doctor to not eat meat for a while, and he refuses because he grew up with meat everyday of his life (or just about).

So, I said i'd give up the internet if he didn't eat meat. So far, he's eating fish and eggs only, as far as I can tell.

...I only use FB and Twitter on my phone, and occasionally post here as our agreement, since I let him eat meat a whole day b/c of my lil bro's party.

Life without internet isn't bad. I feel like I honestly get less done without it though...I still watch less TV... So, I honestly don't know how i'm spending my time really...

Anyway,

Anyone here give up anything for Lent, whether it be for religious purposes or not?

*It may seem weird but I know people that participate in this event even though they are not religious because it says that it puts them on check with certain things and lets them 'restart' or 're-think' a lot of things they take for granted or w/e their reasoning is.

As for the non-religious/vegetarian people: At least during the 40 days of lent, people don't eat meat on every Friday, whether you believe it to be stupid or not. ;)

No offense man, but "giving up" the internet is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard of. Do you spend like 4 hours a day on the web or something?

Hmm, ok. I guess what I don't get is that he is giving up meat to better himself. Howcome you are giving up the internet then? That seems like it'd de better yourself for lack of a better word. You don't have any other bad habits to give up?

^nah, he chose it.

I go to school, work, and work out.

That alone spends like 80% of my time.

Parties, hoes, friends are all scattered throughout my life, that I don't have any bad addictions.

I don't smoke, or drink a lot.

That's all he could name that I stay consistent with, besides my phone, but I need it for talking to my family. haha

What would u give up if u had to? Any bad habits u got?

Sometimes I wish I had bad habits.

Yeah, I could give up drinking. I'm a pretty bad binge drinker right now. I'll go for three weeks being sober b/c I'm so bogged down with school and work, then the next three weeks I'll get plastered each weekend. I'd say I could give up doing drugs but I only really do drugs when I've been drinking heavily, and even then its a pretty random occurence.

Your lucky you don't have any bad habits. A year and a half ago I had pretty bad coke habit going which lasted for like 5 months. When you first start its nothing, your just partying. Then one day you wake up and realise exactly what your doing and just how bad it is. When that day came for me I made the right decision, a couple of my friends didn't and its sad to see them now. I can't even be around them anymore.

i didn't give up anything.

but i was phoneless for 1 whole month. at first i hated it, you know not being reachable and all. but then i realized it was fucking great. the freedom was nice and all.

i think i depended too much on my phone. now that i have an iphone, i'm even more dependent as i use it for facebook, twitter, games, etc. before i only used my phone for texting and calling purposes.

i wouldn't be able to live without the internet though. i need it for school and work. surprisingly i don't need it so much for social life. i use internet to check my gossip, browse sh, check my facebook/twitter, check my email, download new episodes of tv shows i follow, annnnnd school/work.

I thought the same about the internet, then I went up north a while back where my phone had no connection and no PC. The first day I was freaking out, but the 2nd and 3rd felt like a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. Once I got home, I was quite irritated for some reason. lol

^yeah. but at the same time i appreciate having a phone once again. i do not have a home phone number right now... so i was pretty much unreachable unless my friends tried contacting me through facebook or via my bf's phone. it's good to be able to be reached immediately, especially in case of emergencies.
