haayyyllp! diet and fitness question

#1
yo yo, I gots a question.. here's the scenario. I am re-entering the realm of the Gymnasium. Due to my hiatus from visiting Jim on a regular basis, I have lost quite a bit of muscle mass. I have also gained somewhat of a belly (like a beer belly minus the beer). Furthermore I have also noticed my face has gotten chubby :?

My goal was to go in trying to bulk and regain my muscle mass. But I dont know if I should try and shed some of the fat I've put on first.

What do u guys suggest?

And what sort of a diet would u guys suggest.. I do not drink beer, so cutting out the beer wouldn't help.

I'm just afraid that if I try and bulk, my face will just get fatter, I know the belly will probably shrink though.

Supplements? vitamins and minerals? what to avoid eating? What to start eating? etc.

in exchange for this invaluable information I will give the most helpful member my first born child (well maybe not, but I might)

Hmmm....

You really have two options.

You can a) Focus on cardio work, take vitamins and good stuff, and "cut" down meaning you will look lean and thin (face will look better), but you wont be stronger and wont have more mass.

Or you can b) Take some protein and creatine and pump weights to turn the mass (chubby arms I see you!) into muscle and build ontop of it, then you can cut for a week, then build again for three, cut, build cut build etc etc. Depending on your body. Or you can just keep building.

If you're not TOO fat you'll burn it anyway because when you work out your metabolism kicks into over drive.

Be warned, creatine for some people, if they dont drink enough water, gives them a chubby face, but it is just water weight. If you drink PLENTY of water, you wont have a problem as the body wont feel the need to store it.

As for diet, just have a balanced diet man. LISTEN to your body, if you feel like shit after a particular meal, try not eating that food often.

I found out last week before MMA training that for some weird reason my body hates when I eat a lot of fruit. *Shurgs*.

hahha chubby arms, nah.. all thats on point.. My face is just getting a bit chubby, and I got a small belly.. It's nothing too bad, but I could do without it, lol.

I'm not sure about creatine, I heard alot of ppl bulk up like crazy with creatine, but end up losing a lot when they stop cycling.. annd on top of that they're left with fat.

so right now, I'm thinking I'm going to work out for strength and mass, and just play a lot of basketball while i'm in the gym for cardio.

My biggest problem is controlling what I eat, and WHEN I eat. I have dinner on a regular basis after 1am, and usually around 3am, depending what time I decide coming home. Even if I have dinner earlier I get hungry again when I get home, and just end up eating.

I guess I just need to have a banana or something and take my ass to bed if i'm fiendin for food in the middle of the night.

As far as vitamins and other supplements go what kind of stuff would you suggest? Or even some food tips.

btw mma training eh.. Nice, how long have u been training?

The whole when you eat thing is silly in my opinion. If Im awake from 4pm to 6am who cares if I eat at 1am? Get me? Its your body's clock.

Just make sure to eat five smaller meals spaced out evenly throughout your day and cut out the junk food and sugary drinks.

Get a good Tri creatine and you dont need to cycle. Take it daily, it is great stuff. If you stop taking it you will lose the water it stores, so you will lose some size yes, but not all of it, and it wont turn to fat. People that say that have generally stopped working out, and blame the creatine for the fat gain, when really, it's the fact they arent working out anymore that puts fat on.

Creatine gives you an energy boost, helps you push past your peak, and stores water in your muscles so they function cooler, can push harder, and look bigger.

If you want an all around supplement look into these new Acai berry powders, get a protein powder, a mens multi vitamin (you should do this anyway), and a creatine and you will be set.

For the record, a fat face, is sadly, a sign of aging :(

hmm, well, the eating late problem is that I dont come home, eat and then chill, and pass out.. I come home and chill for a while, and eat, like right before I pass out.

And I'm not too big on junk food, or sugary drinks. I only like coke and shit with certain foods, or else I'm not too crazy for pop either. I cant control myself around ice cream and chocolate though, hahahaha yeaaaa I know.. I'm a bitch... But I dont give a fuck about that either cuz my household never has either unless its some sort of an occasion.

And maybe I'll research creatine a bit more, see if I wanna give it a shot.

This is what I was taking, which helped me quite a bit when I was working out before to bulk up.

But I guess that muscle that I gained and didnt maintain like an idiot is what led to the chubbiness in my stomach and face.

... annnddd fat face is a sign of aging :| I'm only 23... Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

:( hahaha, faaawwwckk

and hmm acai berry powder, never heard of it, I shall look into that.. I know I'm ignorant.

I'm completely illiterate when it comes to these things.

I hope jokerman chimes in, he's always got interesting insights on subjects like this and benefits and side effects for all sorts of shit.

But thanks a lot Ruk, u've put quite a bit into perspective for me.

Creatine is pretty much a waste of time and money unless he plans to work out a lot. If he is gonna be working out only 2 or 3 times a week he shouldnt bother. should just get a mass gain supplement if he wants to gain mass. maybe get one with Creatine in it if he really wants it.

btw it is pretty much impossible to lose weight and gain muscle mass at the same time. So if you think that you are overweight i suggest that you lose the excess fat first and then attempt to build muscle. It is enivitable that you will put on some fat when you are building muscle.

look at the threads Shadows made for more information. cannot be bothered typing all that again.

Thanks, yea I just read Shadow's thread.

I guess my issue is not that I'm fat... My belly doesnt bother me much, cuz it really doesnt look that bad, just a bit flabby. Which I'm sure will start going away within a month or so.. I think I have more beef with my face getting chubby than anything else.

Have to disagree with you on all counts.

Creatine is good for cases where you need an explosive boost in your muscles, not just for building. I use it in MMA, people use it in Football, Basketball, etc etc, it helps your muscles function. You need it in your system stored, so I take it daily, but hit the gym three times a week, train two times a week.

As for fat loss, once he starts working out, his metabolism will increase and he will lose weight as well. I personally think it is easier to bulk up and THEN lose the weight, because you are in better shape and used to working out. Fat out of shape people hate running and will give up, so I suggest he gets in shape first, and then cuts IF he still needs/wants to, but focusing on the cardio and eating better. After working out properly for a few months his metabolism will be great and he'll be used to pushing himself and with some cardio work he will cut the pounds off and be left with nice muscle.
