Technology tech question

#1
ok, I have a linksys wireless n router that I am running in my home, problem is from what I understand a router will only run at the speed of the slowest equipment hooked up to it, my laptop is a G so when my laptop is on my router only runs at G correct?

Well my kids both have laptops that are wireless N and we also have a PS3 and an XBox that all share this together...

my question is...does anyone know how I would connect my old wireless G router to this and just run my laptop and the PS3 off of it, I know how to find the router and make the PS3 and my laptop search for it, but for some reason I can't get internet through the G router. I have a cable running from the 1 port on the wireless n to the "internet" port on the wireless G, why can't get internet when I have my laptop connected to the G wireless network? I know there are some tech savy people on here and this is a jumbled mess, but any help would be appreciated.
