Here's mine on my G1:

5 homescreens, the middle one is the default and where it goes to when you press the home button.

That has all the stuff I use the most on it, my upcoming events calendar, GTalk, Twidroid (Twitter app) etc etc.

Swipe to the left and you get to the live Foursquare widget, Wikipedia, YouTube and Camera app, swipe again to the left and you get the live Twitter widget.

Swipe to the right and there's my Google Tasks list (live to-do list that syncs with my Gmail account), a photoframe widget with a picture of me and my wife, the Google search bar with voice search, and music player widget.....swipe to the right again and there's the Facebook widget, Task killer widget and some other stuff.

What kind of stuff do you guys have on your phones?

Well, the Android UI really looks nice.

It looked way worse when I had a chance to play with it on a brand new G1. Customization seems to be the key.

Absolutely. And mine isn't even heavily customised.

There are apps that allow you to change any shortcut icon to whatever you want (and lots of themed icon packs in the market), you can also get apps that change the fonts as well.

Here's some images I jacked from Android forums, showing people's homescreens that have done way more customisation than I have....

/\ this guy has decided to remove the app names and just have the icons.

^and you have to root the phone to customize like that?
For full themes, yeah.

With the app "BetterCut" you can change icon images though, and utilize the icon packs that are in the market.

To change fonts, taskbar color, app tray color, that kinda shit you need root.

Once you have root you can flash entire themes straight away, which is pretty cool.

This is the XDA subforum for Android themes, there's some really cool shit in there:

I took some time to browse the "Post you home screen" thread in that Android forum and some themes look awesome! Almost all are so neat and nice.

Does that rooting thing mean your warranty is fucked? Or is it just a subtle modification that doesn't break any guidelines?

Technically it voids your warranty yes, but you can always "unroot" it by flashing a stock image back, so it's not an issue...

Unless the phone breaks in a way that it wouldn't even boot :cheesy:
But then chances are they wouldn't even know that it was rooted.

It's pretty fucking hard to brick Android phones from what I can see. If you install certain developer SPL's without flashing newer radio's first that's basically the only way to do it.....and the vast majority of custom ROM's do not require different radios or SPLs.

/\ I used PicMe to do mine. Works fine.

You have to be on wifi, then you go to the IP address it gives you on your computer and voila! image is there.

/\ the version on the Hero is built by HTC and only works on phone's with HTC's "Sense" interface.

However, somebody replicated it under the name "Beautiful Widgets", but HTC filed a trademark infringement order and had it pulled from the Android Market.

But fear not! I found you a download link:
