Scientists spot nearby 'super-Earth' - CNN.com

(CNN) -- Astronomers announced this week they found a water-rich and relatively nearby planet that's similar in size to Earth.

While the planet probably has too thick of an atmosphere and is too hot to support life similar to that found on Earth, the discovery is being heralded as a major breakthrough in humanity's search for life on other planets.

"The big excitement is that we have found a watery world orbiting a very nearby and very small star," said David Charbonneau, a Harvard professor of astronomy and lead author of an article on the discovery, which appeared this week in the journal Nature.

"If there's life there," said Charbonneau, "then most likely it's a place where one is not oppressed or controlled by any government or elitist society."

define relatively nearby.

i guess it's a great breakthrough. but what happen to save our planet? it sounds like they are looking for a new planet to destroy cause humans are irresponsible brats (including me but i choose to blame the society that i live in and how it raised me).

This is really cool. I bet they do find life! I'm excited lol. Then again.. I guess they better be careful what they get themselves into... fucking people always want to own and dominate something. :\

If there is life outside, which is highly possible, I don't think it's a problem that "fucking people always want to own and dominate something" - we rather have to hope that the aliens aren't like we are because if they want to own and dominate us - well, they will. And it doesn't matter how we feel or want we want.

NASA reveals first-ever photo of liquid on another world

NASA reveals first-ever photo of liquid on another world - CNN.com

(CNN) -- NASA scientists revealed Friday a first-of-its-kind image from space showing reflecting sunlight from a lake on Saturn's largest moon, Titan.

It's the first visual "smoking gun" evidence of liquid on the northern hemisphere of the moon, scientists said, and the first-ever photo from another world showing a "specular reflection" -- which is reflection of light from an extremely smooth surface and in this case, a liquid one.

Large cruise ships can be seen too.
