Couple of points to note about this video.

1. It was filmed at Google IO 2009, which was 7 months ago in May, but only broadcast yesterday.

The Goggles/Visual Search technology was new then, it is now flawless and will be launching soon.

2. The gap between Google and Apple is shrinking by the day. At the time of this video being filmed, Android 1.5 had just been rolled out, now we're days away from 2.1 and there's close to 30,000 Android apps in the Market place.

3. This shit is insane. When they release an API for this, allowing third parties to build apps using the Goggles data, mash it up with Geotagged photos and tweets, integrate it with Maps and things like Foursquare......the game is over!!

so im guessing by looking at the screenshot of the video that on the phone you can use the camera to scan a site. the scanned object will be the input and it will return results about what you just scanned. i.e. a statue or a landmark?

if i am wrong, i shall watch the video to find out.

Yeah, exactly. Visual Search. But it can work with a whole range of different things - Places, landmarks, CD's, DVD's, books, magazines.....basically anything.

LOL you're still on 1.5. Goggles is 1.6 and higher. Get with the program.

And yes, new Market is 1.6.

Cyanogen is close to completing a full 2.0 ROM and you're still using 1.5 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

You realise that even people with unrooted phones have been on 1.6 for months now? And Cyan had a 1.6 ROM out for like a month before the official update hit.

yes i do. but with the new method of having to do the htc file update etc i havent bothered to update it yet and i havent researched into how to update the rom with the google apps being maintained.

ive been getting many updates using cm mod updater but i always reject them because if i accept i will loose the google apps...

It's piss easy. It's not any harder than doing an update the old way, you just have to flash an additional file first, and not let the phone boot up after flashing that first file.

(Boot to recovery, flash HTC file, reboot back into recovery, flash Cyanogen update)

okay i found this thread on the AC forums:

[ROM] CyanogenMod - Keeping You Legal For Less (STABLE) [UPDATED 11/29 - v4.2.6] - Android Community Forums

then i found the applicable link to download the 1.6 recovery image:

HTC - Developer Center

i then get a warning:
Attention!
This update applies to the Android Dev Phone for developers only. The Android Dev Phone with its unique color and pattern can be seen here. This update will not work on the T-Mobile G1 or any other Android powered phone.
What should i do?

This is the official Cyan thread:
[ROM] CyanogenMod - Keeping You Legal For Less (STABLE) [UPDATED 12/02 - v4.2.7.1] - xda-developers

This is the link you want for the HTC image:

HTC - Developer Center

The file you need is the one called:

signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip

Here's how I would do it.

1. Use My Backup Pro to backup everything on your phone.
2. Download HTC file and Cyanogen ROM (from web, not CM Updater)
3. Put both files on sdcard
4. Reboot into recovery
5. Make Nandroid backup
6. Wipe/factory reset from Recovery
7. Flash HTC file from recovery, when it's done it will prompt a reboot. Reboot BUT DO NOT LET IT BOOT TO THE OS. Hold down the Home button to ensure that it reboots back into Recovery. This is the most important step. If you allowed it to boot back into the OS at this point you would lose root.
8. Flash Cyanogen Mod from Recovery
9. Reboot into OS
10. Sign in with your Google info.
11. Use My Backup Pro to restore all information.

thanks, already did those - figured it out via another link.

was trying google goggles on my sky remote but it wouldnt recognise the object. maybe i needed to take the picture in better lighting conditions.

i liked the old layout of the market better with the featured apps running across from left to right, centred at the top.

mobentoo 3.3 - is this the market that other developers post their products to? i once came across a site of android apps where i could download from. cant remember the name of it.

my esmee background has been changed to the black one with the blue wavy lines, similar to the HD windows vista BG's.
