Shut up, You're Wrong.
I am tired of hearing this talk about one messaging client being better than another. When it comes down to it, all that matters is what client are the most amount of people using. That is how we define what's really the "best" program.
There are 49 Million regisered users of AIM. And that's not including the members who IM via AOL (it's parent, and OG IM Client). That is the most registered number of users to any client in the world (yes go check your facts on Google). AOL/AIM has been the reigning champ since it's conception.
No one is saying that AIM offers the most services and options. If you ask me, I think Yahoo is the best. I always thought that was the coolest client, and still do. But no one gets on that. MSN comes in a close second. There are plenty of other new programs that have come out such as Skype that are probably better than all of these clients, but not many people use that.
Do you get the picture? It's not about features. Chat protocols are intended for networking--to talk with people. So if you're not gonna get what everyone has, you might not catch a lot of your friends. Although, I do understand there are some spots such as Iowa City, Iowa where perhaps one lonesome man may be 1 of 3 ICQ users left and certain spots in UK where MSN is dominant for whatever reason.
As Militant said, if there's one client that will dethrone AIM, it's MySpace Messenger. Again, it offers nothing new, but MySpace has 70 Million registered users. And if even half of them sign up for MySpace Messenger, that's a pretty good competitor--especially since the number of users on MySpace constantly increases. MySpace is the second most visited website on the Internet. And what's Myspace for? Networking. I soon see that Inbox becoming empty and people converting over to the Messenger. MySpace Messenger is a PERFECT client. It offers alerts for E-Mail, Friend Requests, Comments, etc. Again, nothing new, but who actually sets up their email alerts for MSN or AIM? Well, a few. I know half of my friends already use MySpace Messenger and I'm already starting to use that over AIM.
Okay I'm going to Walmart now.
