WoW Needs Reinvigorating

It really seems to be dead, at the moment. It used to be that I'd come on and there'd be plenty of topics I could read and reply to, plenty of people for me to argue with. Now a lot of it seems to be someone posting a news article, a couple of smart Alec comments and then nothing. I think we really need to generate more activity otherwise I can see more people leaving. Starting tomorrow I'm going to try and start a topic a day, topics that will hopefully spark discussion and make this place a little more lively.

you are right. i remember the time when there were topics about religion/god etc and the threads were like 10 pages long. it was the time when i logged in and the first forum i visited was WoW. now i rarely visit it anymore...if i take a look i see 5 threads by hankaveli which are stupid as fuck...so i leave again...

there is no one here worth debateing so I don't exert to much effort, the only reason I post shit is to try and spark Convo.

It's not just topics.Back in the day, we had members that sparked controversy and gave some balance to the forum.There were the hardcore Pro-Israelis, hardcore pro-Americans and vise versa, like Inluv with Grasp, Heesh, groobz, ATI Rage, etc.We got some decent members, like Illuminattile, not really ken, Jokerman, Teck NeeX, Amara and others, but the standard of debate is not the one we're used to.
A topic a day sounds like a good idea, but you need to choose the topic carefully, Illuminattile.You need something that would spark a debate.

The problem is that the topics with the biggest hits have all been done innumerable times and we aren't really getting new members. Most of us have had our say about the Israel/Palestine debate, the Iraq War, the belief/atheism debate, the gay nature/nurture debate, white ppl using the "N" word, the Illuminatti, the Moon hoax, Planet X, the Big Bang, Evolution, science predictions in the Quran, and the WOW needs invigorating threads. And any news article that can be connected to any of those thread subjects in any way gets connected and that becomes the subject of the thread. Why, because most ppl here don't know much, they just have opinions. And so the subjects that ppl can have an opinion about are the ones that become popular.

Hankaveli, I think it is great that you take an interest and post new topics, but I think perhaps it is too much. To have one or two threads circulating in the same forum is probably enough and would more likely entice people to respond... the quantity that you post tends to override any potential interest in the content.

I think it would be better if people, rather than posting multiple threads on the same topic, were able to condense them or single out one of significance and focus on that, so that the standard of WoW is not lost.

As it is a forum which is designed to stimulate thought provoking debates, it would perhaps be better if instead of copy and pasting news articles - we took the relevant information, and put it in our own words and gave our own perspective, so it would be more conducive to a discussion. Afterall, we are all capable of reading a newspaper or switching on a TV - so there is no need for WoW to become a collection of news articles.

Overloading the forum with topics, mostly about the same thing isnt going to keep it alive. As we have seen from this thread, most of the people who have put a lot of time into this forum - Illuminattile, Jokerman, Duke, ken, MX, groobz, devils, myself are getting disatisfied because of the way it is heading - news articles, no debates. I think all of us would be more willing to debate, yet the content doesnt let us, especially because we are an international bunch in WoW - a lot of the threads arent relevant to anyone outside the US.

I understand that that you dont want to take the extra time, but we dont have the time to read through long articles, download them or whatever, you know what I mean? I might condense some of the topics by merging them. Hopefully if we can change something, reduce news articles and increase more thought-based topics then things will pick up.
