Looking at it again, the Aussies can only finish second at best.

Ghana , Germany is interesting, end to end stuff. Thought Ghana would be playing for a draw but credit to them, they want the win.

more rubbish from England today. a little bit better than the Algeria game but Slovenia are absolutely atrocious team. However, anything can happen from now on but how will England cope with Ozil and Kedeira's runs from midfield?

great goal by Ozil.

Happy to see Ghana go though.

Serbia are a joke.

Serbia missed a lot of easy chances, especially Krasic. The two offside goals were painful to watch and realize they don't count. On the other hand, Australia capitalized (superbly) on the little chances that they did have. I think in the first half, Serbia outplayed the Aussies by a ton. In the second half, the kangaroos showed some heart and scored very good goals. That's it. I think it's funny you call out Serbia yet you don't mention the Aussie handball in the penalty box that's surely a yellow and a penalty. All good, though. Serbia didn't deserve to win for not capitalizing on easy chances. Sad thing is for the kangaroos that they still didn't advance.

^^i dont think it was a penalty. it was accidental.

i have nothing against Serbia but i just think that this team and the one at the last WC were extremely spineless. just not enough fight from them. with the players they have they should do better but perhaps those players are just overrated.

Algeria player Rafik Saifi slapped a female journalist across the face as the aftermath of the USA’s dramatic World Cup victory turned ugly at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.

While walking through the interview zone, Saifi spotted writer Asma Halimi, who works for Algerian newspaper Competition, and struck her with his open hand in front of dozens of witnesses. Halimi responded by striking the player in the mouth.

Saifi then threw a sports drink bottle at a wall in the interview area, as Halimi was ushered away by security staff.
Saifi came on as substitute for the last five minutes of the USA’s 1-0 victory.
“I said nothing to him and he reached over and hit me,” Halimi said to Yahoo! Sports. “So I hit him back. I said nothing to him first.”
It is understood that Saifi and Halimi had previously had a difference of opinion over an article she wrote for her newspaper.

“She was standing there and the guy came here and he hit her,” said Francisco Aguilar Chang, a reporter from Guatemala who witnessed the incident. “Then she hit him back and her nail caught his lip.”
Saifi and Algerian football association officials refused to comment when quizzed by Yahoo! Sports.
The Algerian team has come under heavy criticism in its homeland after a disappointing World Cup in which it finished at the bottom of Group C and was knocked out of the tournament.
When asked if she would launch an official complaint with governing body FIFA and the Algerian FA. Halimi replied: “Of course.”
that guy is such an idiot. i remember him when we played them. crying like a bitch over every little contact.

So all the refs, pundits, Fifa, etc are wrong but Seb is right?

Don't be delusional.

Also, you're again contradicting yourself. Jumping into the ball with his arm high and his elbow out.

Guess what colour card that is. Let me give you a hint. It's not yellow.
Dude there's tons of people saying that the decision was harsh on Gourcuff...

Who? Idiots probably. Or pundits that played for Wulvingcaddy Rabbits 45 years ago and think they know the game. Or your ice hockey friends.

Elbow of the week. You don't have to jump up like a penguin and flap your elbows about knocking people senseless.

It doesn't even matter if you THINK it's harsh. Then criticize the rules, because the rules simply say it's a card. You are endangering a fellow player, intent or not. Red. End of story.

I'm sad to see Slovenia go, but I don't think that they are an atrocious team Bobby... They know themselves that they are not as good as most of the teams in the WC, but be objective for a second and think about it... They DID give it their all, they tried the best they could and they almost qualified. A lot of ppl thought that they were a mistake in the WC, I think that by proving them wrong, they did what they had to do in this WC.

I think that they proved more to the world than England, France and a few other teams combined up until now.

Referees will back each other
FIFA will always back the referee and fuck their opinion
and pundits will have differeing opinions

that said, i agree with you on this one. he does lead with his elbow. its dangerous play. i do not agree with you oever the Kaka incident though.

I don't exclude the possibility that his elbowy shunt was the "final straw" for the ref, cos Kaka was being annoying before that as well. Also, if Keita didn't go down like a shark just bit his leg off, Kaka would've probably gotten away with it.

It's still incredibly stupid of Kaka to risk that move when you're already cautioned and the ref warned you even after that and is looking at you.

While Gourcuff's dismissal was somewhat harsh, the reality is that his action led to his dismissal. The referee only sees play in real time and has to make his call decisively and quickly. To be fair to Mr. Ruiz, Gourcuff jumped into the challenge. Although his arms were in a natural position and it did not appear to be intentional elbowing of Tshabalala, he endangered his opponent. Therefore, the challenge puts his opponent in a dangerous situation or endangers his safety.

In going into the challenge, Gourcuff's jump to play the ball could have been regarded as excessive force and "complete disregard" for Tshabalala. In addition, that Gourcuff's elbow made contact with Tshabalala's face did him no favours, since the part of the body where contact is made is a critical consideration.

2010 FIFA World Cup - Assessing Yoann Gourcuff's Red Card Against South Africa

I don't agree with everything in the article but this was spot on.
