Which US state was the last to free their slaves?

lets get back on topic people. which state and what year? if the state has already been posted then please tell me so that i will know who was correct. then i will have learned something new for the day :D

I'm not going to look up the exact dates, but I can guarantee that the last state to officially free their slaves would have been in the Southwest.

The Constitutional Amendment (and Union occupation) forcibly abolished slavery in the South east of the Mississippi, but it took longer for the Union to occupy the likes of Texas.

In fact, ironically, the last pitched battle of the Civil War was won by Confederates in the Southwest.
