baseball has been big in southern america for 100 years, way before Castro came along Havana, Cuba used to host yearly US baseball tours during the off-season and stadiums were packed, Havana was the mecca of baseball at the time

This coming from a Dutchman lol. Anyway Soccer comes from Association Football, the original name for the game. In countries where there is more than one form of Football played such as the U.S., Australia, Ireland etc. it's simply easier to refer to it as Soccer in order to differentiate
I use to love basketball with a passion but since the greatest players that I have ever seen retired (Jordan, Bird, Magic, Thomas, Barkley, Olajuwon) I could really care less now. Old timer here. So right now it is the NFL thats number 1 and a bookey.
