What ended the crack epidemic?

I am not from the inner-city, but the epidemic has ended. There's still use of crack, but its no longer an epidemic. How can it be an epidemic if pot is more popular? Pot is the most popular drug in the USA today, but its still not considered an epidemic.

I am not sure if pot should ever be considered an epidemic because it does not cause unbalanced society as much as crack would. With crack, everything could become a mess, but there are limits on pot. Pot can only do so much.

It was never cool to do crack. Anyone who does crack is an idiot. Back in the day, the cocaine dealers looked pretty cool, but that was because of the money they had. Remember Scarface?

For the record, the difference between crack and cocaine is:

Since the hydrochloride salt decomposes at the temperature required to vaporise it, cocaine is instead converted to the liberated base form. Initially, "free-base" cocaine was typically produced using volatile solvents, usually ether. Unfortunately, this technique is physically dangerous. The solvent tends to ignite, i.e., Richard Pryor. Hence a more convenient method of producing smokeable free-base became popular. Its product is crack.

To obtain crack cocaine, ordinary cocaine hydrochloride is concentrated by heating the drug in a solution of baking soda until the water evaporates. This type of base-cocaine makes a cracking sound when heated; hence the name "crack." Base cocaine vaporises at a low temperature, so it can be easily inhaled via a heated pipe.

The drama. But like those other guys said, I think it slowed it down, but it didn't end it yet and I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

^^ Damn, thats what happened to Richard Pryor? I never knew that.
Actually that rumor about Richard Pryor is false. He was freebasing, but he doused himself in alcohol and set himself on fire in a suicide attempt. You should see the movie Jojo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (I know, the title is gay as hell, but it's a semi-autobiographical movie about Richard Pryor starring him, it's really very good.) Anyway, back to the topic. I'd hardly say the crack epidemic is over, it all depends on where you live. Up here in Canada, especially in Winnipeg where I'm from, it's been getting a lot worse. A clinic here even started giving out free crack pipes to addicts to avoid the spread of disease from sharing pipes. Meth is big here too, since it gets you a lot higher for a lot longer for a lot cheaper. I've had a lot of friends turn into junkies from both recently (Actually I have a friend in rehab for that shit right now) That's why I stick to weed :D

From what I'm seeing crack is going to go a very long way. It's just sad to see people stealing from their parents or selling stuff which isn't theirs to get some. The worst is 2 days ago I was chillin with my friends on the corner, a guy passed by and asked my friend and I by saying "I know you guys look like students but can I ask you where I can find some juicy because I have my friends that came from Toronto that want to try it out" Then seeing as I know everyone in my neighborhood I redirected him to where he may be able to find some. But what's sad is even if wouldn't tell him a place he would eventually find one. So there you go with these types of examples do you really crack is going to extinct in a few days or even months?

Peace
