true, good point - but is a obvious lie "an opinion" too? If so, how can I be punished for lyin in court? Wouldn't that be an opinion too?
If they asked you whether you believe the holocaust happened and you said no you wouldn't get punished (in most nations, obviously). If you were a guard at Auschwitz and denied it in court, you would get punished. see the difference?

So - what about the US and the CIA "guidin" other countries to capitalism?
I have never supported anything like that.

Well you'd have to assume he actually believed what he was saying at the time, so it wasn't a lie. It's not like he killed 6 million Jews and then denied it. He thought, for whatever reason, that the Holocaust was a fabrication. In the words of George Costanza "It's not a lie if you believe it".

But in this case, you wouldn't have to assume anything. It was previously proven in court that he did lie by deliberately misrepresenting the contents of relevant documents to conform to his sympathetic view of Hitler and his claim that nothing on the order of genocide occurred under Nazi rule. In his case, "for whatever reason" was Anti-Semitism and sensationalism.

Disagreed. I don't think denying the Holocaust can be classified as an opinion. It's disregarding a blatant fact.

If I have a stone in my hand, and tell people it will fly upwards instead of fall to the ground when I release it, is that then "my opinion"?

imo, it's being an idiot. It's been proven (and pretty obvious) that it will fall to the ground. Just as it's pretty obvious to see the Holocaust did happen. There's no conclusive evidence that God exists or that he doesnt (if such a thing can even exist).

Now Irving broke the law and got served. He's obviously a narrowminded anti-semitic idiot, but he has a point when he said that no government should dictate what he can or can't write (there's my precious freedom of speech, :) ). He's making enough of a fool of himself saying the things he did anyway. I doubt many young people are seriously going to believe him. The youth isn't that stupid, it's not even a matter of intelligence.

Anyway, off to watch PSV-Lyon

And he's a racist too. I mean...this is ridiculous

David Irving said:
I am not anti-coloured, take it from me; nothing pleases me more than when I arrive at an airport, or a station, or a seaport, and I see a coloured family there — the black father, the black wife and the black children… When I see these families arriving at the airport I am happy, and when I see them leaving at London airport I am happy.

But if there is one thing that gets up my nose, I must admit, it is this — the way… the thing is when I am down in Torquay and I switch on my television and I see one of them reading our news to us. It is our news and they’re reading it to me. If I was a chauvinist I would say I object even to seeing women reading our news to us.

…But now we have women reading out news to us. If they could perhaps have their own news which they were reading to us, I suppose [laughter], it would be very interesting.

For the time being, for a transitional period I'd be prepared to accept that the BBC should have a dinner-jacketed gentleman reading the important news to us, following by a lady reading all the less important news, followed by Trevor McDonald (the UK's first black newsreader and all-around legend) giving us all the latest news about the muggings and the drug busts…

Here's an idea. Instead of arresting him, Austria should build The David Irving Holocaust Memorial. Connect his name to something like that, make him gag and ruin his reputation among the neo-types at the same time.

Japanese atrocities in Manchuria and the Rape of Nanking are discussed in most history courses these days. In fact, more historians are beginning to consider Japan's campaign in China as the real start of WWII (instead of the invasion of Poland in 1939).
Yes, that's why the population seems still oblivious to it all. Not everybody reads up on history like you or I. In fact, most people hardly even listen in these history classes. They just try and remember what to study just to pass and don't even reflect on what is right in front of them, sadly.

It seems that Mr. Irving is living 200 years ago. No wonder he thinks the Holocaust never happened. |

This emphasizes my point. He's such a jackass extraordinaire I'm wondering why people take this clown seriously.

DO you really believe in this? If so, why would you trip if some dudes make fun of muhammed? Or isn't this quote true as soon as it comes to religion?

^seriously, wft are you on about?
I agree with that quote because it is so true to what I believe in just an independant right. Nothing to do specifically with cartoons or Irving.
