Don't worry, we can still win it. It could be worse after all, we could be relying on Robert Huth! *points at BeReal and laughs* :D:p
be sure i dont rely on him. i hope two other defenders will play.

On another note do you all think it's worth taking Rooney to Germany?? I mean part of me wants him to play regardless of his fitness level, but at the same time playing him when he's not ready could be disastrous, especially for Man Utd next season.
i dont think its worth taking him to the WC. after all his foot is broken, hes still 20, he should care about his health.

What's the story on Ledley King? Is he still injured, is he expected to make the World Cup? If so i'd go for:

------------Robinson---------------

Neville--Ferdinand--Terry--A.Cole

--------------King-------------------

Beckham--Lampard--Gerrard--J.Cole

-------------Owen------------------

This formation can offer Lampard and Gerrard the freedom to go attack whilst King can plug the gap while they attack. King really impressed me against France at Euro 2004, i'd prefer to play him over Carrick.

King is injured, broken matatarsal surprisingly!

I don't get this argument of King in the holding role. He's a class player but if an Englishman has been playing that role all season in the same club team and doing well then he must start so for me it's gotta be Carrick. Also, Riquelme taught him a lesson in that friendly and he played centre back versus France in 2004. I'd have him at centre back over Rio if available but he's not.

I think Rooney is worth keeping in the squad til the deadline for changing injured players, June 9th.

Beckham is still a class act, despite whats the tabloids say. He's Real Madrids best player this season and they are going to finish 2nd in arguably the best league in the world, doesn't sound like a player who isn't very good anymore.
There is no way that Real Madrid could finish second. Valencia holds that place strongly. But Beckam played very good is some games this season. Anyway, his future in Spain is doubtful. Real had another miserable season. Three years they are without trophies. We will see what new president thinks about his presence at Santiago Bernabeu after the elections, since he'll probably wanted to renew the team.

Beckham mightve been Real Madrids best player this season, but they have all been poor, Madrid pretty much missed Ronaldo.

Madrid might finish 2nd, but Valencia who are 2 points clear have an easier run in.

Carrick would be my pick for the holding role.

I would rather play a 3 5 2 1 though.
3521? So your playing with 11 outfield players...i don't know about the rest of us but i don't think sacrificing a keeper because of Rooney's injury is wise. :horny:

Aside from you having an extra player i don't think we have any players apart from Ashley Cole who could perform at the top level in a wing back role. Also, no Premiership teams play 3 at the back so would the players be used to the system?

The papers are full of shit, according to the Daily Star United have virtually signed Diarra and Riquelme.

The following is taken from SkySports:

He said he's had the scan and the scan said there's two breaks but it's still the same healing process and it's not any worse or better than before.

The Old Trafford outfit have reiterated the initial verdict on the injury and, although they will not go into more details, that news is brighter as it means the ex-Everton youngster could yet be available in time for the knockout stages of football's greatest competition.
"Despite stories in the press, we believe Wayne is still six weeks away from full training," said the United statement.
There's still hope :)

Surely even if he fractured every metatarsal it would still only take 6 weeks to be fit. It's not like they all have to wait for the one before them to heal is it?

Call me optimistic but I can see him making the latter stages, as long as his bone shave healed I think Sven's gonna play him regardless if he's match fit or not.

At the end of the day it aint Svens choice, its down to Rooney whether he feels he can play or not. Theres no point in rushing him back to early and then he breaks down again.

I meant 3 5 1 1 lol. Who put the 2 next to the 1. Dumb idea!!!

Rio, Neville, Terry across the back. Maybe even playing Campbell as he's shit hot in the tournaments, but he hasn't proven his fitness.

I'd have Cole, Lampard, Carrick, Gerrard, Beckham across the middle.

Then ideally Rooney and Owen up front.

It is a far more flexible system. Especially at international level. How many teams play with 1 striker up front? Most of them. So why do you need 4 defenders? You end up with the 2 centre backs marking the 1 striker and missing the runner.

Also most teams play with 4 at the back. Having 1 striker means that more players are making late runs and hard to pick up. It also means that the main battle which is in midfield, is won by the team who has the spare player(s).

It is better suited to continental football.

If Rooney's out, we might as well just play one up front. Gives us a chance to use one of the defensive midfielders we have (Carrick, Parker, King...though knowing Sven it'll be Hargreaves) and hopefully the freedom that Lampard and Gerrard get will provide some of the creativity we'll miss from the Boy Wonder.
