OK so not long till the Premiership starts. Whats everyone expecting this year.

I'll say:

Champions - Chelsea, just can't see anyone being able to compete with their strentgh in depth.

2nd - Liverpool
3rd - Arsenal
4th - Man Utd

Relegated:

Watford
Middlesborough
Wigan

1st. Liverpool
2nd. Chelsea
3rd. Arsenal
4th. Man Utd
5th. Spurs

18th. Watford
19th. Wigan
20th. Sheff Utd

I fancy Liverpool this season. If you take the first month's results out of last seasons league standings then Liverpool would've finished top. Look at their repalcements...

Aurelio > Traore
Bellamy > Cisse
Kuyt > Morientes (not done but looking likely)

Not to mention Pennant, Gonzalez and Paletta adding more strength in depth.

I want Watford to stay up though, Adie Boothyroyd is a good young manager.

How are people backing Arsenal to do better than United?

They're in a worse position than last year, when they scraped 4th spot

Their defence looks even weaker (Campbell gone, Cole going)
Their midfield looks slightly stronger, having replaced Pires with Rosicky
Their attacking options are reduced with the loss of Bergkamp and the probable move of Reyes

United have lost their top goalscorer, but if Saha stays fit and plays like last season then it won't be too big a blow. Carrick is a big improvement over Fletcher/O'Shea, and Hargreaves will be too.

I can see people backing Liverpool to come second, but Arsenal to come third?

They have Wenger, who proved he is one of the best, if not THE best club manager in World football. Eboue has emerged as an amazing prospect. Fabregas is established now, Robin Van Persie showed what he can do at the World Cup, they kept Henry, signed Rosicky who is top class and finally, they haven't spunked 35m on two players who 3 months ago were worth 10-15m combined. Also, Reyes won't go and if Ashley Cole does they have Clichy who is a good replacement and 25m to spend on another defender.

We had this debate about Arsenal last season, and Wenger confounded the critics with no budget, as he always does.

Shevcenko and Ballack arrived alonside two young strikers. Only players which couldn't contribute to Chelsea game went. They started to fade away and club like Chelsea doesn't tolerate that. Mourinho is chess-player which succesfully changes the chessmen. Professional football is cruel. Ask Italian players from less known clubs which change their clubs every 6 months to year...
Chelsea will win Premiership title for the third time in the row. This is their era. But, this time that will be much harder. Liverpool and Arsenal are hungry but, at the end, they will fight for the 2nd place. Wenger is persistent and his work ethics provides results. This is the last season in which Benitez can live on the wings of his Istanbul succes. They have stronger team every next year. They beat Chelsea. That will be huge stimulation for them.
I really don't understand Manchester United policy. It seems that Ferguson, stubborn like he always was, refuse to take different approach. That gave him trophies in the 90's but this is different time. I don't like to predict but they'll have problems with Tottenham to keep their place in first 4 teams in the league. Spurs got Berbatov and Zokora. Their rise will continue.
I think that the newcomers, Wattford, Reading and Sheffield United are the closest to be relegated but nothing is sure in England. You have huge group of teams which can be sensation in the League but also the biggest disappointment. You'll find there all other clubs - Wigan Athletic, West Ham United, Newcatsle United, Middlesborough, Aston Villa, Everton, Charlton Athletic, Fulham, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.
This will be very interesting season. It will have more people at the stadiums (not only due to Arsenal new home), more new young prospects and more money to bookmakers. Overall, one of the most promising seasons in the past years.

The best club manager in the world would have won the Champions League by now, or managed to retain the Premiership title. And if Wenger's so good, why did they have such a pitiful Premiership season last year?

Eboue has emerged as an amazing prospect. Fabregas is established now, Robin Van Persie showed what he can do at the World Cup, they kept Henry, signed Rosicky who is top class
So...the same squad (plus a midfielder, minus a defender, a midfielder, a striker and probably another defender and striker) is going to make up the 15 points that separated them from 3rd place last season? Where's the logic in that?

they haven't spunked 35m on two players who 3 months ago were worth 10-15m combined.
If you think Michael Carrick would have gone for less than £10m after last season, you're wrong. Hargreaves might have been cheaper, but after losing Ballack they're not going to let him go cheap. If you want to talk about wasting money, is Theo Walcott going to get a game this year?

Also, Reyes won't go
All signs point to him going. Even his teammates think he should go.

and if Ashley Cole does they have Clichy who is a good replacement and 25m to spend on another defender.
Clichy's decent, but nowhere near as good as Cole. And as for the £25m for another defender, a) Arsene Wenger doesn't know what to do with money. b) They haven't been linked with any defenders, except Curtis Davies who's signed a new contract.

We had this debate about Arsenal last season, and Wenger confounded the critics with no budget, as he always does.
He didn't confound me by losing twice as many games as United and Chelsea and sitting in 5th for most of the season. I don't see how signing Rosicky and losing Sol Campbell propels them from a narrow 4th place to 3rd, ahead of United.

Agreed, Arsenals run to the final of the CL overshadowed their poor league campaign.

Oh and Arsense is the best club manager in the world, that probably will go to Rafa. Winning the CL, won the Spanish league twice with Valenica..went to the final of the CL twice with them.

United demolished Fulham. Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, Ronaldo and Saha were all immense.

Chelsea won through their usual formula; a John Terry header, a deflected Frank Lampard shot...*yawn*

Drogbas goal was excellent though.

Great start to the season, from a neutral viewpoint. 33 goals in 10 games, no goalless draws, four penalties, four red cards, some surprising results and an early goal of the season contender (Campo).
